If you wanted to you could do early to mid war Brandenburg commando and wear no insignia whatsoever, not even national eagles. I've pics of them totally devoid of badges.

So theres the option, if the insignia is shoite, take it off and your a brandenburger if anyone asks, sorted 8)

edited to add anyone moans about any exception to the rule thing ... remember we've got media characatures on the axis side :raspberry: that AND Rhys is always the exception to any rule

I think what we are saying Helga is in the light of the effort Rhys has put into the rest of his kit, not that it won't 'do'. He won't be happy if it's not right, none of us are  . Damn, I put words in his mouth, but you know what I mean.

Yes but as said, insignia can be changed, he can do that later, once chrimble is over and done with, and improve on it as he goes along ;) he might decide we're a complete bunch of loons or a pita and not want to play with us anymore  we all have to start somewhere and any new kit Allied or Axis, is a work in progress. I was lucky when I got mine I could afford all the bits for it, was even more chuffed when I saw the GD lads at the VS had the same titles/shoulder boards as me 8) meant I'd made the right choice :D . Che's has been a work in progress, getting there now but he had the wrong trews until recently.

Not disagreeing HG!
Took me a year to do US, a year to do German and it will be a year to do Brit. But it annoys the hell out of me buying stuff twice when I should have bought better but over a longer period of time.

I got a panzer wrap for £10 + £13 shipping, total of £23 from Barry Lyndon, the supplied shoulder boards where naff so I put all new insignia on it, soon adds up, shoulder boards £11, EK1 £8, cuff title £7, sleve eagle £4, collar tabs £11, tank destroyer badge £8, panzer assault badge about £10, looks good though

SUPPOSED TO BE ENCOURAGING HIM :: he's working on a budget (

I AM encouraging him! My point, which has been TOTALLY missed, is that all of us, no matter how much we like to deny it, no matter that there is a "counts as", like to get our kit looking as good as possible and that sometimes, what appears cheap at first glance isn't always the best. I'm no stitch counter but I do like good quality. I'm not the only one who has cut himself on a cheap button, I'm not the only one who has spent more replacing crappy insignia than on the original items themselves!

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

thanks to you all on both sides for arguing my case and you're both right :) as with my US kit I've put alot of effort into it to get it at least semi right so would want to do the same with my german.

and as helga says to begin with im working on a budget(so I can suprise my wife with new glasses) so have to find a happy middle ground :) in time I'll work to improve it etc but for now will have to do with a base level of kit(eg dont think i can afford the mp44 pouches right away so may have to use a bread bag or something).

with that in mind lets leave spearhead behind a second. How is KCS militarias stuff? thats my next option in terms of price as they are near identical price wise to spearhead but not as many free bits. their kit in the photos looks a nicer quality but I had bad dealings with them before so a little hesitent.

failing that suesue66 came back with a.. ok price. not a brilliant price but a good one none the less.

Have you tried looking at the waffen ss kit guide under the CIA banner at the top of the forum page, theres some good ideas for buying German kit on a budget.

RSOV have put the prices down but put the postage up, Gunner is the same, he wanted £15 postage for 3 mp-001 mags, its a case of shopping about,

Steve.D

I might be wrong but this may be a way of helping us brits out when it comes to duty and VAT. You only pay on the item itself, not the postage. therefore the cheaper the item the less you might have to pay. the seller doesn't care as he still gets his asking price

Sorry Chris, you've got the wrong end of the stick there. You do get charged Duty and VAT on the cost of the shipping (shipping being a service as far as HMR&C are concerned)

thats what I said...might not have made it clear. Gun costs £80.00. Seller says the gun costs £35.00 and the shiping is £45.00 Buyer only pays VAT on the £35.00. Seller still gets his £80.00 Think we're on the same page :D

I'm afraid Kermit is right, duty is charged on cost of item, about 3% unless the duty chargable is less than 10 euro's, then VAT is charged on cost of item + cost of shipping + duty, and then just to add insult to injury the company delivering the item adds a 'handling' fee which runs at about £13 an order :( .

The only way you don't pay these costs is if the value of the item is less than £18.

Plus, rate of Duty is dependent on the type of goods. If you're *really* bored, you can get the rates from the HMR&C website.

the problem now being it seems keiths in charge of this HK-KND company, which if you dig a little deeper seems to be involved in 3 airsoft online shops. So hes answering emails a bit less and possibly has more costs etc and the pricing structure has become more rigid.

I've managed to haggle him down a bit on the hk33 but not anywhere near as much as normal. would have tried gunner for this one but as rsov had slashed the hk33's price to £26 rsov was cheaper

Or £36 if marked as a gift.

Dont know if its just me being lucky but in the past ive ordered a few bits worth more than £18 form HK/China and never been hit with any fees-up to now that is :( :( :( :(
Stuff from the US on the other hand seems to get hit every time
