I have a minor niggle with the Tanaka mags.
First I must apologise for my lack of knowledge of the correct name for parts, or exactly what they do.
At the back of the mag is a sprung bit (sorry  ) that seems to be vital to the operation of the mag. My niggle is the little springs keep popping out. I was advised that a bic lighter flint spring is and ideal replacement, and it is, but they still seem to not want to stay in place!
Is this a common problem with these mags and if it is what's the fix?
I didnt think solder would stick to steel, but I dont really know, would super glue help or would it be too brittle?
Any advice would be welcome :D

I've applied superglue to the bottom of the springs in the mags and they seem to be holding in place.
Has anybody come up with an answer to carrying Tanaka mags into combat other than putting them in a pocket? I found whilst laying prone, with webbing on, getting mags out of a pocket, whilst under fire, er "Interesting"
Edit, it just dawned on me as I read that, maybe put the spares in the top pockets next time :slap:
Ok so any ideas how to fit them in the mag pouches or should i buy g43 pouches and be wrong?

I've got a set of the canvas G43 pouches, they take the tanaka mags with ease. The leather versions are very snug. I had those to begin with for my K98k. Corven was trying go make 'kingsize' triple pouches, but that's died a death.

I've a bandoleer for when I'm FJ, no issues if i use the upper pockets. However, like u i suffered from pronemagloss lol.

I normally keep my spare mags in my gasmask canister and one loaded in a pocket, incase of need for more than ten rounds, per engagement.

Due to the MED, i try to skirt direct contact, but have pistol at hand if needed.

That sounds like a good idea. Can you tell me did you drill out the rivets on the dividers or cut the leather and hacksaw away the rivets? I figure the pouches are useless anyway so I'm prepared to have a look at butchering them.

I got Tanaka mags to fit into K98 pouches but, it involved some surgery. I cut down them down so that the magazine went across both compartments and the top flaps could still be closed to keep the mag secure. By cutting the"walls", I didn't have to remove the internal dividers.

Also, those little springs really are a pain. I cut small pieces of plasticard to fit in the gap and superglued them in place, leaving enough room for the spring to move behind it.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
