hi
looking to get my first set of y-straps and found extra-long ones on SOF. Description says that they're 6 inches
longer than regular straps for people over 5' 10" - I'm 6' 3"
what do you think

Hi Conrad, well IMHO, many people wear their belts too low. If you look at period pictures, you will see that it is definitely not a waist belt, but worn between the diaphragm and the navel. Other factors to consider: if you are (say) hooking it onto MP40 pouches, that will give you a bit more length. If you were to use D-rings, that would also give you more length.
I am 5' 11" and I have approximately... (goes to measure it) 10" of spare play in my (regular length) Y-straps, when worn with MP40 pouches!

i do plan to get an mp40. So that would be ok - thanks for that

I'm 6'3" and a 48" chest and I only need standard straps even for K98 pouches.

thanks guys - that answers my question.
while still on the subject of y-straps, in your opinions, which of the usual suspects (SOF, Epic etc.) stock the best repros. The reason i'm asking is that i've managed to get some really good belt kit together so far and wouldn't want it to be let down by some nasty looking y-straps.
thanks

Kermit rated Landser outfitters very highly

They sure ain't cheap.
Underwood's are the same price as Epic, SoF, etc, but should be better quality. (Actually, unless we're comparing them with really poor quality ones from ebay or similar, there probably isn't an awful lot of difference.)

The Landser ones have a v nice aged finished - i'll save up for those...

Bear in mind that at the end of the war these would have been at most five years old (and then if you got ne of the first issues), so 'aged' is not necessarily the right look.

i take your point.
have a look at the link they just seem to be worn at points of contact - shoulders, d-rings etc.
