Basically a SS sniper is no differant than a SS soldier in what they wear..other than the sniper would but a lot more camouflage on his uniform and issued a face veil

Dave is right is saying there generally wasn't much in the way of speciallist sniper clothing. Late war Heer did have the sumpfmuster smock with hood, but that wasn't a specialist sniper item as such. Most of the time the kit was simply the standard infantry load augmented with natural camouflage and whatever additonal camouflage clothing could be aquired. Snipers would often wear caps instead of helmets for better visibilty.

thanks for the advice, so basically an infantry loadout with what ever i can get my hands on to improve my kit. even bits of allied kit picked up in battle.

Sounds about right. Snipers pretty much expected to be shot out of hand if captured, so carrying enemy kit wasn't an issue.

There's a very famous photo of a Brit sniper wearing an SS camo smock, for example.

Hmm.... yes there is - but opinion is divided as to whether that photo was taken on a training exercise, where he was "playing" German.

My advice - steer clear of enemy kit, to be honest. I can't recall any other photo "evidence". Not saying it wouldn't happen, but it would have been pretty rare, IMO.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier

Even then wouldn't have been commonly worn as it had the potential to get you shot.

Binoculars, and a compass..a Zelt (was used to drag away dirt from diggin shooting positions) instead of leather belts they where admonished to use the tropical issue web belt, infantryknife 42 for close combat and trimming branches and foilage from shooting positions and a showel for digging.. This according to "The german sniper 1914-1945" On the subject of camoflage it refers to a training manual instructing snipers to "wear camoflage at all times (traning and combat) and if no camoflage clothing is available, fatigue dress must be imprinted or sprayed with camoflage colors, camoflage dress must allways be worn.."
Wich is kinda interresting, maybe the point was just to instill the importance of camouflage, wich was sort of i new concept..At least on a larger scale but thats just me thinking loud..

On most of the pictures in that book the snipers seem to wear fieldgrey with the odd helmetcover but there are also some portrayed in camo smocks,Portrayed since my guesstimation is that a fair amount of those pictures are staged..
