A Czechoslovakian manufacturer has popped up who makes several variations of German boots at a cost of £180 to £200.
Cost a lot? Looks like completely tradition boot making to me, complete with wooden pinning and they look very nice indeed.
What's more he illustrates boot making on his web site that not only demonstrates the skill of a craftsman but answers all those niggling "how on earth do they.." questions I have!
I'm a sucker for admiring people with REAL skills and if I had the cash I'd stump up the necessary in the blink of an eye.

Personally, I think the toe shape is totally wrong - not "shark nosed" at all.
I'm pursuing another manufacturer, since the Czech ones formerly availabe from ZM are no longer so. ![]()

Heh, this shark nose thing keeps coming up - take a look at your Deutsche Soldaten book.

OK I will, but I have recently been told that a number of photos in his book are of post war items! ![]()

Its interesting though. There are all sorts of variations with boots made in many countries over many years. When I got my low boots last year I thought the toes looked rounded and therefore 'wrong' so I looked at every picture I could find and damn me this sharks nose thing seemed very elusive. Sure, well used boots had vertically flattened toes as the leather loses its shape, but pretty much everything had round noses like Saiz's illustrations!

I thought the shark nose thing was only for jackboots. They have much softer leather uppers than ankle boots.
Only 2 examples, but these are nothing like the ones for sale.

Good link.
They seem pretty close to the late M44 boots to me. Hell, if he's hand-making them, why not ask him if he can make a flat-toed version?
I think Dog Green 1 is using this chap for boots.
I could do with a good pair of low boots for next year and the 16th
Interestingly, exactly the same discussion regarding low boot toe shape is also happening on PG net. Certainly some of the M44 boots do have a more rounded toe, but I have decided not to buy these Czech ones.

Don't think I'll be using him. I do have issues with the toes even though photos of originals do show them to have the so called shark mouth shape and the shape like these. Biggest concern is the cost. Even at £180 it's still nearly £50.00 more than the Polish made boots used to retail for. They were also hand made and had the reputation of being the best boots available. Unfortunatley the supply of these is nigh on impossible which means anyone else making similar items can charge what they want. I'm still undecided wether to try one of my Asian suppliers as the cost is much lower but so might the quailty. Boots are the biggest supply knightmare there is still ![]()
What would you guys reccomend for a good pair of jackboots? I have second hand Richard Underwoods that the soles are starting to fall off, Low boots from Epic which are ok but I still need to strip all the stain off and make them look ok, but I want to buy a good pair of repro boots that are going to be comfortable and hard wearing.
Does anybody know if these are any good http://www.epicmilitaria.com/product.ph ... ing-boots-

Jimbo, those look like Sturm ones, which is what I have. Mine have held up well, but some people say they are not as strong as handmade ones. Personally, I am looking for some with a better shape, since the calves are mahoosive. Just my opinion, but if you're prepared to spend over 100 squid, then I would not rush to buy these. If the guy who made my low boots (HGBerger on PST forum) also did jackboots, then I would not hesitate to buy some off him. Unfortunately (being a perfectionist), he needs to buy a particular pegging or sewing machine thingummybob, which would cost him about 3000 Euros, in order to make decent jackboots.
There is another bootmaker on that forum (JOKY), but looking at his pictures, I'm really not convinced that they're the right shape.

What would you reccomend then? I've had Russian rubber soled jack boots that were a size 12 not a ten £35, Size ten firemensboots soles and heeled with wrong studs and heel plate £50, A pair of Underwood boots, second hand £50, the soles are falling off. It seems to me that I'm going to have to spend a ton or over on a decent pair of comfortable size ten jackboots to get something comfortable that fits and will give me a good length of life. If that's what it takes, then so be it, If I sell all the wrong boots they'll prolly pay most of the cost of a decent pair.

guys,
if your going to buy custom boots from czech,
then buy them from jakub (joky on the PST forum) who made the boots for zeugermiester and not this svec guy who is trying to copy his work and take his biusness

What would you reccomend then?
I don't know! I've been looking around for a while. Del has a pair which he got from Zeugmeisteri, before he closed business. I would be interested to see them - if they're made by this Joky bloke, then that might be the best bet.

Could you please link me to the pst forum?
Realised the thread went to page two
Does the guy on pst forum only do low boots or does he do jackboots which are what I want?
