Hey Guys, i was wondering. I fancy making an M1 helmet with the 'R' for recon on it. Do you know if recon platoons were introduced for d-day or market garden. If its market garden im stuffed as ive only got M42's.

I googled it and i only found a brief mention but just wanted to be sure.

Don't think the fact that you've only got 42's matters, I'm fairly sure some Normandy Vets still wore their 42's til the end of the war (correct me anyone if I'm wrong). You wanna slap an R on the side of your helmet you do it.
You not got any pics yet Biguk? You must have a full uniform if you're buggering around with Helmet Insignia?
Anyway if you have bung em up on the American Kit pic thread.

Some people wore 42s, but in winter I think lots of people preferred the warmer 43s. The 42s were broken out again in Spring '45.

This was an exception to the norm though.

lol yeah ive got a full kit now...Its just a matter of finding the time to get kitted up and take a few photo's. I mite even keep it under wraps and have a big "tadd darrr" unveiling at husky lol...as i know ur all dying to see it.

I've got ive got 4 M1 helmets now (1 nam style)...So im gonna take my newest one..and respray over the easy company emblem and graf an 'R' on the side...I bought Taff's older easy company helmet. So i dont need 2 the same.

Or you could do what Baker did to his helmet in BiA, scratch over the Regiment symbol on the side so you can still just see it, then pain the R over the top!

Hey biguk
Are you going to paint up your jump suit? and don’t forget that the tongue of the eagle in reconm units was white

If you do piant your jump suit stick a pic up becaise its something that we want to do but no one here has got the bottle :(

I thought that the white tongues was a manufactured error, whereas they should have been red like the others.

I think Recon is different from Pathfinders tooo?

Well I've started my M1 refurb project (thread in the Gen Dis area) and im going to turn it into a Recon 'R' helmet.

I am definatly thinking of painting a jump suit, i like the look. Maybe i'll start the trend.

If you do decide to paint your camo, make sure you do it properly, not with spray paint!

Here's a couple of pictures from actual uniforms in museums. Bear in mind the colours on these will be affected by age and camera settings.

Also, I'd just like to say that this really REALLY shouldn't become a common loadout for everyone. Pathfinders were a minority of soldiers.

Painted my spare helmet up like Sergeant Baker's from Brothers in arms Hell's Highway, on the album are you can still see the Five-oh-deux white heart which has been scratched off and replaced with the Recon 'R'

Good looking helmet.

I won't be painting my jump suit, I'm almost completely happy with my gear now, just another couple of aesthetic bits like a map, tnt blocks etc and I'm done. Then I'm going to move on to new guns!!! But then I'll need different mag pouches OH NO!!!!
