Someone did promise to write up a complete guide to LiPo's - what they are, how they work and how to use them - but nothing transpired. :x

This thread won't be stickied as it is too random but if anyone cares to write an authoritative article (from personal and practical and theoretical pov) that will stand the test of being stickied without further postings then please do get in touch - it will be much appreciated by all.

I've got a load of articles on LiPo that I own the copyright to, so I can stick them into one single guide for all.

Out here pretty much everyone uses Li-Po & I've yet to hear of any accidents/fires while charging them. Somehow I always worried more about the ACM Ni batteries than any of the Li-Po batteries I've owned.

I've had a Ni-cad pack explode whilst using a car charger in the 90's but never had an issue with airsoft packs.
Apparently iphones use lipos, we should ask all these questions at the "genius bar" and see what they say. lol

Would this be the one to use to replace an 8.4V mini?

that should be fine ,just check the measurements.the other thing to take into account is that the higher amperhoure output can be detrimental to the trigger switch contacts and it might be advisable to fit a mosfet switch.with nicad's beyond 2000mahr this can be a problem as well, the old rule of thumb of putting the max mahr batt that you can fit in becomes to mutch for the switch if you apply it to lipo's as the max mahr can be huge.the fitting of a mosfet switch removes this weakness and also inproves trigger response to-boot.the conversion is easy and the ready made units are quite cheep.

I'm an electronics engineer, and MOSFET controllers are in my guns' futures. ;)

Another of my roundtuits.
