Is there any reason not to buy guns or equipment from America, it is so much cheaper than buying in Ireland, Is there a catch? I can get an MP40 plus an extra mag, shipped from America for €50 cheaper than I can get the same gun in Ireland, €90 cheaper than some sites. Is there some kind of import duty to be paid, I was thinking about getting 2, one for a friend. Are they the same AGM MP40, is there a crap version. Is there something I dont know about the whole America thing?

Hi osok, the biggest killer on shipping shooters in from abroad is that the cost of shipping and any applicable import duty and value added tax can quickly wipe out any saving that you make.

Best to do the maths (im sure that the ROI's equivalent of HMR&C can help) before you decide to purchase from abroad.

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

Of course, the other issue is what to do when things go wrong.

A locally purchased gun can be taken back to a retailer who are covered by the laws in your country. No such laws exist for overseas sellers so you may have issues if the item is faulty or goes missing during shipment.

Also if you have to pay duty you'll probably get hit with a handling fee by which ever company is delivering it, in the UK it's usualy £13 which is about 17.5 euros

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I'm still not sure about a few things though. The price I have been given for 2 AGM MP40's plus 2 spare magazines, delivery included is $280, this is equivalent to €192 or £142. If I pay this am I still liable to paying customs duty at some stage and will this hold up delivery of my goods for a long time. Would I be better buying the 2 guns seperately as there is only a €10 saving getting the 2 together, does the total order price matter.
I understand the point about if something goes wrong I am in a different country and complaints may be difficult but the same order in Ireland would cost me €360 or £267gbp so I could nearly buy a new gun for the difference.
Is it the usual case of if it looks too good to be true it is too good to be true or are we just getting completely stung on this side of the water?
Thanks.

Yep, as is typical on this side of the pond we get ripped off every time. I`m not sure what the situation is with your customs and excise people, in the UK its a good idea to allow for at least 25% of the total cost as a customs/import charge. This would be about £35-£36 extra in customs charges on your order.
It would be interesting to know what the law says about buying airsoft guns in the ROI, as here in the UK we`ve been dumped with the VCR bill which has age/entitlement implications as to who the guns can be sold to. :)

You'll need more than 2 spare mags if your going to skirmish with an MP40... Get some 6 pouches and the mags to fill them!

Slick, as far as I know there is nothing to stop anybody buying an airsoft gun in Ireland, I'm new to airsoft so I'm not too sure of all the details but I had ordered an mp40 from a shop in Ireland at christmas but they had sold out of them and not updated their website. I waited a few weeks for them to get them back in but eventually got fed up and got a Desert Eagle pistol instead. They sent it out that day, no questions asked. I presume that means there is no legal requirement before buying a gun. They still havent got the mp40's back in yet and I just really want to get one soon. The only other shop in Ireland doing them was charging €180.

Ah lucky you..seems like you aren`t affected by the vcr bill then. 180 euros is about £133 I think.
Action hobbys in the uk do them for about £99 or thereabouts, chinasoft in the uk have them listed for £68 but they are out of stock.
From RSOV in Hong Kong they are about £40 but that doesn`t include carriage..and you have the customs charges to deal with again.
I found this place over your way.... mp40 at 140 euros, about £104 so not bad 8)
