Since we moved to the new forum software, it has been awfully quiet here. I had some problems getting my account to work on the new platform, has everyone else made it across OK?

Well, forum usage has been dropping to next to nothing since April last year. So much so that I felt disinclined to spent £500 a year to provide the service and shut the forum down.

I didn't, I found an alternative solution (and spent 30 hours doing so) and the result is that the website resource and forum resource are combined, technically secure and up to date, and at reduced cost (as I run it alongside by commercial customers so they effectively pay for it).

I have carefully monitored new logins and, while I made a small adjustment in the first day of the move to accommodate a hitch that a couple of people encountered, all that have applied for new passwords have logged in OK. All, apart from one, Crowley, who will have to contact me directly because the email address he has in his account is incorrect and thus will never get any emails.

So, it is down to you lot. Soon events will restart but if they fail to garner enough participants AND forum traffic remains slight then I give notice that this website and forum will no longer exist at the end of 2021. 12/13 years ago the WW2 scene was MASSIVE because a few people went above and beyond to make it so. Those interested in the WW2 airsoft concept MUST make the effort to be involved - whether finding sites, creating and organising games, galvanising interest, interacting with other potential players and, above all, attending games that completes and perpetuates the circle.

Agree with all David,

It is such a shame that people don`t want to get involved I am sure they do but I understand COVID giving us a beating this year but no one posts on here any more. There used to be a healthy amount of post about kit new sites what they have been upto etc.

I am frustrated as some of the hard core are. We were lucky to get our game out there and people really enjoyed it. We do have another New Site to look at fingers crossed for May on the edge of the M25 near to Dartford not far from the sand pit.

Come on people

Yes well, a reasonable excuse in 2020 but there must be a couple of hundred people out there with full kit (possibly multiple kits) plus all the weapons - they haven't been sold, so lets try and get them into battle in 2021.

It may well be that everything that can be written has already been written (there are a quarter of a million posts on this forum!) but heres hoping viable events kick everything off again soon - Easter kick off seems eminently doable!

Yes, hopefully things will be a bit easier by Easter and we can get going again.

Still here! Still alive and kicking, despite all that the last year has thrown at us.

Hopefully things will ease again as the spring/summer and better weather arrives; stay safe and keep well all.

Oh, and massive thanks David for keeping this place alive. I know that the few of us who use it really appreciate your efforts.

Yes, thanks Dave, it is very much appreciated. Chris seems pretty determined to run another WW2 game at Fireball, and Josh may resurrect the Eastern Front game he'd planned, so there are some things to look forward to.

I’m here. January 2021 was looking very promising with three games in three weeks but alas it wasn’t to be. Can’t wait for normality to resume. Good work Dave for setting up this new site. I am sure it will blossom once more. Hi everyone by the way, see you soon 🤞🏻

Still here.

Think there's a general malaise given the situation: no end in sight for lockdown as yet so impossible to plan for events.

Stagnation in the airsoft scene in general: there isn't anything new or exciting. Been waiting years for some new guns from S&T (FG42 etc) without any kind of realisation, just more crap-tastic-plastic AR weapons.

Brexit has banjaxed a lot of players' ability to actually buy kit: I've experienced issues buying from retailers in the EU as they struggle with the new regime. A lot of UK retailers don't appear to have much in the way of WW2 out in stock at all. Plus my Kar98k has been lost by UPS on it's way from Evike...

Facebook is probably another reason for low numbers. You can easily upload photos/organise events/tell stories/buy & sell kit etc.

Hi, we are having a similar problem here in Canada 🇨🇦,  lots of events planned but covid hit us last year and its not looking good this year too, its been over 5 years since I was on here and had to make a new account,  was under Wraith666.

I'm now with a 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion Reenactment group that attends airsoft events too.

Your old account is still live Paul - I guess you don't use the *129@hotmail.com account anymore, so couldn't retrieve a new password?

@sgtsaunders - Sorry, I don't have any information I'm afraid, other than info I posted in his forum section.

For 14 years the forum ran standalone on PHPBB, now runs on wpForo which is integrated with the website's WordPress platform.

I ran a 'Nam' airsoft themed forum but shut it down about three years ago. No new members for about a year and hardly any traffic, it was pointless.

As others have said, a lot of people now use faceache, I do wonder if that is because of the constant use of smartphones amongst the younger (and some older) generation, rather than using a PC.

It`s easier to click a button to join a group on fb on a smartphone, without having to make up a username, supply an email, and then confirm that email to join a forum.

The last part is probably a blessing in disguise for this type of forum, as some of the re-enactment groups on fb seem to get constant requests from youngsters whose sole object seems to be how to get a gun. And even some requests from parents thinking that reenactment groups are some sort of cadet group and can they offload little Johnny on them for the weekend.... bizarre.

It could be my age but I think that Britain has become very odd over the last few years 🙂

Not to mention the fact that a lot of Facebook ww2 groups get shut down with no warning. Hopefully the tide will turn and we'll see a renewed interest in forums once Facebook is finished kerb stomping every group they can.
