after seeing this a few day's ago,I suddenly realised something about the german fictional e tool covers:
first, please read this link from the kasserine pass thread

viewtopic.php?f=133&t=9194&start=60

Webbing e-tool covers almost certainly did not exist, but are still sold on ebay.

a few day's ago, I was reading the latest acquisitions thread, and I came across this:

Have searched high and low for a good quality one of these (need one for the 2010 Dunkirk Commemorative march) or even a good repro with no success, so if you have an original Yith guard it with your life!

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=383&start=6000

could it be, that both itens are the same, that this
http://www.epicmilitaria.com/product.ph ... ovel-cover
and this
http://www.schipperfabrik.com/ww2_british.html
are actually based on the same thing?

(moderators, if this is in the wrong section please move it, I just wasn't sure if it should go in british or german)

I wouldn't have thought so. Good thought though!

The German shovels and Brit shovels were diffrent sizes, though a German shovel might very well fit (albiet a bit sloppy) into a Brit shovel cover. The German web covers sold are based on the same design as the leather varient (with an external supporting 'frame' of material/leather around the edge of the shovel head, attached to a 'backing' of material/leather), where-as the Brit covers are basically a 'bag' of fabric, which sandwhiches the shovel head.

The Germans would have trouble using a captured Brit cover, as they'd have no instant way of attaching the 1" brass buckles to their German webbing.
