I started off my airsoft 'career' as a PFC, but after D-day, where my squad was short of people on both leadership and affected rank and where I had to take charge quite a bit, I thought I might as well promote myself to sergeant. I was originally going to do T-5, but that's a rank with no command opportunity.

This has already been covered before in another topic, but I think game organisers should badge up as officers, so people know who to goto if they have any issues. Any1 who has been selected for squad leadership should be Sergeant or Corporal (and german equivelant) ... and the rest be privates.

For open days though, wear whatever you like. I wear officer stuff for open days, because it looks better IMO, for events Ill wear what I'm told, I have most of the NCO and lower ranks to sew on if/when needed.

Started off wwii as junior officer of my old regiment as i primarily went to railway and museum shows wiht my girlfriend who dressed in a 40s style, so my first 'impression' wasnt for airsoft but for 'walking out' at events.

I chose a junior officer as its what i trained to do and gave me more freedom in choice of kit when first starting out.

IN the UK commissioned officers had the right to wear ORs issue kit, officers issue kit OR privately tailored/purchased kit.

Thus more or less any khaki collared shirt is 'correct' etc, made it a *lot* easier to get a good first impression together.

For wwii airsoft i usually end up running or assisting in running a side so a rank makes sense, as with Yith i tend to use slip on rank with uk kit as its period correct, german ranks are trickier as you've litzen, piping and indeed entire uniform cut to worry about.

My first german impression was a very 'war film' and iconic brandenburger commando for CR (not meant to be horribly realistic but meant to just look 'decorated veteran'), the problem with this was that choosing an easily recognisable rank (obergefreitor) meant that it wasnt particularly appropriate for helping run the side.

Fixed this for d-day with a feldwebels loadout, senior enough to move troops about but not too much.

Being a newbie I've just opted for the rank of private or rather Jager for my first impression. My second will be Russian so I may not bother as for non officers its hard to tell the difference between ranks. If I do I may go a bit higher than private as it will look more appropriate with an SVT.

was a pfc but seeing as I got picked for a battlefield commission at Dday I now have all my 101st loadout as a second lt ("you men take care of things here, I'm going for help!")
next year, waylander64,and yankee mike will be going royal Ulster rifles airborne whilst pikey and myself will be going Oxs and Bucks light inf glider troops, privates! (unless I can convert one of those cheap gas revolvers from rsov into a webley service revolver, then I'll have my man carry it for me along with an occasional table for my scotch!)

Im A Corporal as my Airsofting kit is the same as my Reenacting stuff.

Bloody Krauts killed my Sgt and my SSgt when we hit Omaha!

Im also the only Corporal in my Platoon (as per Ranger TO&E).

I normally badge up as either an NCO or as a junior officer - purely to stand out when organising games with my CiA cap on.

Otherwise, i'd stick to grunt , 'cos its a damn sight cheaper on the insignia front!

Yeah I know, went to a fancy dress party my cousin was throwing a last night, so I just put a pair of FJ shoulder boards on my dennison and wore a late war FJ kit under it and a polish para beret on the top. using what I had. She told me I couldnt go as a British Para, so I asked her if I could go as a Micheal Cain charicter(I think the only cain film she's seen is alfy, and possably the italian job).
