I have been thinking about what face protection people are using for WW2 games. For close quarters, you'd still want some sort of teeth guard but not one that would jeopardise the suspension of disbelief.

What are people using? I was thinking of some sort of grey Buff, for my Heer uniform.

I topic covered again and again, though important always ends in the same conclusion. Imho I never use face protection, though occasionally a white gum guard, if like you say, your spending the day at close quarters. Face guards totally ruin it for me, I understand why people use them, but your supposed to be afraid if getting shot. Cheeky chappy did a stint of face guards that looked like the bottom half of the face, thy were the only masks that had a place here I think.
At the end of the day ww2 airsoft is supposed to be different than the 1000s of rounds fired at a open day and in my opinion we have a better calibre of player too, so the need for one is greatly reduced.

That makes perfect sense. It is not a skirmish, so we should be better players and not shoot each other in the kisser.

You could always wear your gas mask!
I reckon that would last all of 5 mins before being thrown in the corner!

Yes I don't think a gas mask would last very long!

I have also heard many stories about the lenses not being ballistic, so they wouldnt protect your eyesight either!

Gum guards are sufficient to protect your teeth IMHO ,a human face style lower mask is also acceptable ,Darth Vader style paint ball masks are an abomination except at games aimed at encouraging new players who are modern air soft players ,there's usually one entry level game per year like that ,anybody caught using overkill style of play such as emptying a mag at someone's face will and does get stomped on pretty fast, the thing is we have no marshalls as such ,we are all marshalls if you can understand that ,if people really don't get the idea of our playing style they simply get banned ,its rare but it does happen .

i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all

I always wear a scarf over my mouth. Have a cut down half mask sewn into it. I just cant use gumshields.
Yes, in ww2 events you are far less likely to get hit in the face but accidents, and strays, can happen.

I've been playing WW2 airsoft for about 8 years, I've never seen anyone get a full burst in the face. When probably 90%+ of players don't wear face masks, you don't intentionally shoot in the face. At long and medium range contact you'd be pretty unlucky to get a tooth knocked out. When it's getting close up, I stick in a gum shield. For CQB in building, I made myself a half face mask years ago, which I've probably only used half a dozen times. In CQB, if you stick your head round a corner, mask or no mask, you'll get it shot at. I think once new guys have played a few games, they realise WW2 airsoft isn't open day mentality. Most guys will fire a burst at your legs if your close. Saying that I understand new players being concerned, I was myself. I know it's years old but here's the link to how I made my half mask. It might be of interest.

Also, did you paint it yourself?

That would be my issue. My painting talent can be compared to the first day of pre-school.

I rarely bother with face protection, although I always take a gumshield with me in case things start to look at bit dodgy and/or use the stock of my weapon as a face shield.

I've get one of those android looking lower face mask things but I've only worn it a couple of times and it ends up running in sweat on the inside and it makes you look goofy.

For CQB I might do things differently and wear a scarf, but that didn't save the end of my nose at Kolner Dom, nor did a gumshield save Yiths front tooth. That is why I hate full auto CQB and try to avoid it if at all possible.

Not sure what 'm going to do at Rattenkreig. Run away at the first sign of Germans?

They sell a tan version now, that would save you painting it! With the green one I had, I rubbed it down with some fine glass paper, sprayed with some old acid etch primer and painted using some of the kids acrylic paints. They sell the tan ones on ebay.

I don't wear facepro for themed games myself. Ruins the effect and I hate it anyway!

I always wear historical loadouts for my regular airsoft, so when I play CQB I wear my tank spatter mask which has always served me well and doesn't clash too badly, even if it is too early for my WWII gear.

If you are worried you can usually wear some kind of toque/buff around the neck then drag it up over the lower half of your face when things get hairy. Usually historically accurate or at least not jarring to look at. Germans famously wore the 'Oma' and post war East German ones are widely available. Brit airboune had those scrim scarves Yank airbourne get that tacky camo scarf contraption and I'm sure others could reccomend similar suitable options. As has been said WW2 games don't generally necessitate face protection, but it's your face/teeth and if people feel the need for it I respect that. I only ask they make it unintrusive.

I've fired a bullet on every continent. Nearly hit someone, too.
