Hi guys
I'd just like to share with you the fact I played my first game of airsoft yesterday, at my local site - Fireball. Had a fantastic time - played through three scenarios and was on the winning team for the day - great stuff. Picked up one or two face shots - they certainly stung - as did one or two others that hit me from fairly close quarters, but all good fun.
Turned up in the GD loadout and received a number of complementary comments, although I have to say I stuck out like a sore thumb and didn't exactly blend in too well camo wise - some post war flecktarn might be in order methinks, for general gaming purposes -
Looking forward to tomorrow's HTD - a hardcore weekend - ![]()
Instead of modern flectarn, why not go for an SS camo suit for normal open days? Not sure what type of terrain is at fireball, but their are that many different SS cammo types, unless it has bright orange trees you will be able to find a variant that blends in, after all flectarn is simply an evolution of 44 dot/ Pea Dot and Oakleaf cammo.
From personal experiance I have found that Splinter and Tan and Water arnt too good in pine forests, I think they were more suited to grassy and swampy areas in russia and the med.
Oak A on the other hand, along with carefull movment never stood me wrong during many private re-enactment battles as German. It was just as good, if not better than the flectarn I was using when I started airsofting at the ambush airsoft site near the derwent resevroir near sheffield.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it ![]()
Regarding camo choices, i'm going to disagree with Gliderrider slightly. I've found that the fairly subdued colours of Splinter work quite well in pine forests, as long as there isn't too much greenery on the ground underneath the tree canopy. Where it does run into trouble a bit is when there's loads of bracken around, where i've found that Plane Tree and Oak A work better.
Camo isn't the be all and end all most people assume. I've airsofted in the woods in everything from Soviet 70's khaki Afghanistan kit to 80's Ranger OG BDU's and firmly believe its movement that gives you away, not what you're wearing (Desert BDU's in a woodland environment not withstanding!)
BTW, the shot in the face thing? Just life telling you to keep your head down or get a full face mask ![]()

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Tan and water is amazing in winter and autumn though.

Nice one Richard. I do have to agree with Kermit - I think there's a lot of guff spoken about camo in the airsoft world - it's movement that usually gives people away, because we don't have enemies searching for us with powerful binoculars.
That said, I also agree with Neillblume - his Oak camo (dunno which one it is) is very good in all sorts of woodland. However, me being Heer, I just have a splinter helmet cover and a Zelt for camo! I rely on my fox-like stealth instead!

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Yep our events are very different.

my camo is oak A from spearhead militaria on ebay. his is very good the colours arent too bright like some suppliers.
I agree with Kermit though, it is generally movement that gives you away and skin colour! A good camo is helpful if youalready have some field and stalking skills.. having said that it is amazing how effective olive drab can be.
my other outfit is east german ddr (strichtarn) I also agree that the tan and water works well - shellshokt wore a smock of that at gz a while ago and i thought it worked really well...
Guys, once again, thanks for the freely given advice and opinions - really appreciated - and thanks for the complement, Ewart - glad you liked it -
Having been to the Hohenstauffen TD today, and spoken to guys there, read the info. here and given some thought to how deep my pockets are -
I've decided to put the Flecktarn idea firmly on the back burner and concentrate on the WW2 gear for now.
I've been looking at Spearhead myself recently with a view to getting some dot44 and Oak A clobber, so I think that's the route I'll be taking.
Say hi in July, Ewart, if you're going along then - I will be - ![]()
Excellent news - what you thinking of going for - US/German/Brit?
Sorry if I didn't recall who you were - you don't have an avatar, so a bit difficult putting a face to the name -
I'll be in the same loadout in July, so come and say hello - ![]()
