You'll find that WW2 players can be very generous when it comes to loaning kit and weapons.

I would suggest that Operation Jedburgh might be difficult going though, because it's a full on weekender and, if you're using loaned kit and don't have things like period tentage and equipment, nor experience of using it, you're going to struggle. The Kasserine Pass game in June might be a safer bet, as it's a one day game, run to a different format, or, possibly even a Gunman game, as Josh has lots of loaner kit and even does gun hire.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

id start with a looks like uniforms just to get going mate, untill you find what you "like"

the first thing to get is your own, decent gun, thats the tricky part

im like you in a way, i never play at regular sites, just dont have the time or intrest in open days, so no site membership, and pay through the arse at one site for 6 games or whatever it is, no ukara registration, simple
it was always a stichup by the retailers and site owners to try and stop the chinasoft guns coming in. (but thats another topic)

ive no ukara certification, but any copper who bothers to come round can look at the 2,000 quid + ive spent on ww2 kit and know im not a chav with a plinker who f**ks around (no comments please, .............. :D resist the urge chaps)

my brother had police in the house , and they took one look at his 17 guns and other kit, and said, no problem mate, we can see its for your hobby.

its all about proveing you have a legitimate defence to buy and sell Realistic imitation firearms R.I.F for short

if your in a tracksuit arseing around on some wasteground with an mp40 or thompson, saying "im a ww2 re-enactor" wont cut the mustard

if you a genuinely keen and have played at a cia game you may qualify to join this group

ROBBED FROM CHOMLEYS POST

Comrades in Arms offers this optional benefit to owners of the Comrades in Arms membership card.

Since much of what we currently do (and have plans for in the future) has as much to do with re-enactment as airsoft, Comrades in Arms is now affiliated with the re-enactment umbrella organisation AFRA (All Fronts Re-enactment Association).

AFRA has representations with the Government and the Home Office as well as Police Authorities representing your interests. AFRA aims also to work alongside established bodies in this field such as NaRES, SBG, WWIILHA and anyone else who is making positive inroads in our sphere of interest.

Included in the package:
* Admittance to a Members Area of the AFRA website.
* Admittance to the AFRA Members Forum
* Access to the Events Section where they may inform the Association of their intent to attend a show on the calendar.
* Access to the Risk Assessment Section where they may compile an online Risk Assessment to qualify for the relevant insurance.
* Comprehensive Insurance Cover for Living History/re-enactment activities. (This includes – Third Party Public Liability Insurance, Theft cover from, to and at an event, Theft cover of items stored securely at home. Member to Member cover. Cover for Vehicles when not covered by the Road Traffic Act (in an arena or behind a rope on a display) Personal accident Cover.*)
* Re-enactor status for the purposes of RIF personal importation and RIF purchase from growing number of UK dealers.

So, Comrades in Arms have sold out? What happened to their coveted ‘inclusively’? Well, simply put, not much has changed other than a widening of horizon. Our game rules won’t change - we love players turning up in looks-like kit as it’s the foundation of a new player base. In time kit will ‘improve’ but always at a personal pace, not dictated by others. But, we recognise other players are looking for something more and for those that do the AFRA package may appeal.

Who might benefit?
Players who attend re-enactment events not as part of an organised group (often promenading) who are required to have personal Public Liability insurance.
Players who require insurance cover for personal injury or loss or damage to kit.
Players who want to become part of the bigger re-enactment scene.
Players who can’t fulfil the requirements of the VCRA airsofter’s defence (unable to get UKARA as they play at many sites or don't want membership of one site).

How do I join
Apply to the Headshot by PM, post, email or PM - not on open forum.

How do I qualify?
CiA will validate your application.
You must be over 16yrs.
You must have played at a CiA game and hold a CiA membership card (which will be issued from 2nd March 2008)
Your level of kit accuracy/completeness must reflect that of a keen re-enactor.
You must be a current and active card-holding member of CiA and regularly attend CiA-endorsed events.
You must abide by the rules of AFRA (rules currently under review to reflect new members' needs)

How much does it cost?
£20 for the first year payable to Comrades in Arms who will process the application with AFRA. Renewals are £15 per year thereafter which are processed directly through AFRA.

TAKE NOTE OF THIS BIT HERE

What AFRA membership is NOT for.
Whilst AFRA membership provides you with a defence to purchase and import RIFs from many UK and international retailers, it is not provided as a loophole for anyone to get hold of RIF. Members must fulfill the above criteria to the satisfaction of the CiA and AFRA organisers. Only current and active attendees of CiA-endorsed events will be granted membership.

SHAMLESSLY ROBBED FROM CHOMLEYS POST

the best advise i can give is to join this group speak to chomley or headshot, play a few cia games with looks like kit or borrow and loan a gun of a nice player on the bend it pay for it rule, (it does happen, great people on here :good: )and prove you interst, (dont waste money on open days) and bobs your uncle hopefully
hope this helped ,porta

Hi, here's my tuppence-worth. It (obviously) costs money, as does any airsoft kit / equipment. Decide if you really want to do WWII airsoft before you buy anything. There have been many people who've bought a load of kit (some of it without asking for advice and ending up with inaccurate / poor quality kit), played the odd game, and then given up. They then end up with a load of unwanted kit which they often can't sell for toffee, or sell at a loss.

As Pete has said, the guys on this forum are extremely generous in lending out kit and guns to newbies - which is the best route to try if you're not 100% sure you really want to stick with WWII airsoft.

For me, it was different - WWII airsoft was like a dream come true, not just a passing fancy, having been interested in that period of history since I was a kid.

I'll echo all of the above advice.

If I were in your shoes I'd start off with one of Josh's Gunman games

viewforum.php?f=51

They might be more expensive than some others, but considering he'll loan you free lookalike uniforms it will work out a LOT cheaper. His gun rental is very reasonable too. Don't make the same mistake that we've all made and impulse-buy a load of kit that turns out to be wrong for your chosen impression.

Still giggle when I remember trying to convince you to buy stuff before the first game all those years back ...." no no it's too elitist / exclusive and I can justify it !"
Not having a go Andy just celebrating someone who's been in this from the start . :happydance:

Heh, I was only complaining because I really wanted to attend the first event, but didn't have any kit! I guess having just bought my modern stuff, I didn't feel I could justify spending on WWII kit that I thought I might not wear that much. Of course, the opposite was true - in a short space of time I dumped all my modern stuff, never to be worn again! :happyclap:

Define 'First' Nige? WW2 airsoft has been going on much longer than CiA have been established. Granted before CiA, the current organisers were organising those games, but not together! hehe :P

Yes, I think you'll find the Close Action chaps organised their game after they attended one of my events at Fireball way back when! :good:

Although I think Nige might mean the first one CA organised, as they did two.

Yes the first one both CA did with many of the guys from CIA just before CIA was set up, Ratty was there.
Steve D and I were playing ww2 events at CA before that game as were a number of others at different venues.
