Kudos to those who want something like this, but that sort of structure may not work of everyone.

Structure?

The whole point of it is that there isn't a structure... except to say that there are several leaders of PBI... We have no fixed rank or squad system (been there done that, didn't like it), it's all made up on an event to event basis.

As I said I was Lt a fortnight ago and will be Pte this weekend.

its usually the guy with the biggest gun and mouth.

Often it's nobody at all... :ghey:

The best games at Open Days I've had are when the organisers supplied or assigned leaders to sides... Then those leaders assign squads and leaders of those squads... It does happen and it is good.

Re Gadge & everyone really

I cant explain how enlighting it is to have a sensible and non bigoted convo with guys, as opposed to some I've had with reenactor "mooks" :good:

Deffo, I love a sensible debate and especially if i come away form it leanrng something, its why i love references and links when someone has a point to prove.

It s usually pretty friendly here.

Rule number one of CIA loosely interpreted from the original German:

"Do not attempt to imitate a male chicken"

As long as we all stick to that we tend to get along ;)

And to yith... dont worry mate I've bumped myself down from Major to Sgt.... now *thats* a pay cut ;)

Ironically best open day game I ever had was when I was in command (not by choice) I made sure that everyone knew the attack plan before starting and appointed a subordinate commander then took off with a LRRP team to find and flank the enemy with the main force attacking from the front I set a time for the attack to begin and it happened like clockwork completely annihilating the unsuspecting defending team who were swaning around all unorginised like.

Just out of intersest,and hoping I'm not making an international male chicken of myself;
as a newbie to airsoft (discounting my carbine springer purchase in the early 90s  ) and particularly WW2 airsoft , are there any regular U.S. infantry units (as opposed to uber elite airborne) that fall under the CiA umbrella (2nd, 8th, 29th etc)?

I dont own / wanna own jump boots - is there a place in this war for the average Joe? :?

Doughboys do 1st infantry and 82nd GIR but I think will do more as scenarios dictate.

Ah, yes....The First Rule of CiA. Writ in stone, and brought from the mountain top. May it forever don the mantelpiece of the CiA mess hall.

I'll get it translated into proper German post-haste.

Heh... there's the doughboys...

We do 82nd Div 325th GIR, but thats as elite as we get. Other primary impressions are 1st Div.

Basically the idea is to be able to reuse the standard Infantry kit for as many events as possible. So if an event came up that required us to wear the divs you have listed then we would change our insignia to suit.

The reason why we're 82nd GIR at the moment is for the upcoming St. Lo game that PBI are running.

See down the forum list for our forum... you're very welcome to join!

That's exactly my experience with good Open Days and when I keep going to good sites then it's what I get over and over again. :)

M14s can be converted to M1 rifles (I didn't use the G-word! ), for not too much expense. The other option is a Thompson.

Ah good work, thanks fellas will check the Doughboy link! Big Red Un huh?

Were the 82nd at St Lo?
I thought they pushed westward with the 79th&90th?

Got the gear, gotta get suitable WW2 weapon, M1 seems a drag unless yer staying in one position (don't fancy getting laced up by a Nazi with a burp gun, while i scurry around for spent clips  ). an M14 is tempting though i couldn't help feeling i was 'dirty' using a 'wrong' weapon.

Well you see....

We're doing the initial first days towards St Lo where the 82nd did some initial moves before being retired out and replaced.

We chose this as we knew that:

1) the majority of US players did US Airborne
2) It allowed us to have line inf and airborne uniforms in the same area of operations (with glider troops wearing line kit)

Now we did all this, hoped that the 101st players woudl get excited about a game specically for US Airborne but seeing as it requires the mighty task of rebadging we had a bit of oposition.

We're hoping that now Doughboys has a good solid direction we'll get enough US players.

If we were going to be doing this strictly accurately it woudl be 29th vs FJ but unfortunately we'd be looking at about six players aside if we did that.

Re: Gadge

nah, thats cool

I was gonna say 29th (gotta bit of a thing for "uncle charlies" boys  ) or 35th would be ideal. (kelly heroes possibilities  perhaps not for the faint hearted purists)

Had a great time in my jeep last summer, retracing all the 115th,116 & 175th routes down to St Lo. (Still haven't washed off the mud from Martinville and hill108  )

Pop over to the dog company forum for a bit of jeep fun, all us airbourn aint that bad

Feckin hell Chommers ..me Kermit and Scott go away for a weekend and all this breaks loose. starting the revolution without us again !

OK for my money - opretty much an reenactor . I've come from the MV scene , which was a bit dull, to airsoft . Jumped straight in at the deep end with a strong Milsim team , and ended up playing with lunatic ex paras up in North Wales , mainly 24 hour long exercises ....note not 'games'. Did a year's worth of open days , just not my bag, like comparing crazy golf with Gleneagles IMHO. If you like it fine by me , but not what I want to do . It's no conincidence when we wrote the 'rules' to WW2 airsoft , you will see a lot of 'MILSIM' principals.

I've never done conventional reenacting, I've no interest in educating anyone , it's all about me and my experience ...sorry .

So anyway ......AFAIK I am a reeanctor ,in that I want to feel and experience what it's like to be in combat , whether modern or WW2 .

Am I a kit whore?, no not really , I like to be reasonably authentic but don't spend months worrying over which colour waffenfarbe to wear. My jackboots for the past three years are German firemans boots, farby as fuck , Don't care ! I've marched in every WW2 game with them and they haven't let me down . I like the fact they're bolloxed and have been re-soled .

..........& yes I've sold all the modern gear so it's pretty much WW2 only .

Am I a LARPer , not really, but role play is essential to what we do .

What do I want from our battles :-

People who can take it seriously but who can see the lighthearted side and have some fun as well .

So don't care if you're kits a bit crap , if you throw yourself into the spirit off it you're ok by me .

You join an army when you put on the uniform , which means act like a soldier , take orders, give orders, don't act like you're just playing like a tit in the woods . They maybe only toy guns , but hopefully real men (& woman)behind them .

If you can't relate to the above , then frankly , don't come to our events .
I for one , (dare I say openely 'we'? ) don't want you there.

Harsh maybe, but for three years we've put on event for all comers, the day is coming I hope to go back to where we wanted to be in the beginning .

IT'S WHATS IN YOUR HEAD THAT COUNTS NOT THE KIT YOU WEAR OR THE GUN YOU CARRY
