I've bought a new gun with steel pistol grip frame and plate, which the plate was suppose to be wood on real steel. Is there a way to make the steel part look like wood?

Hi if u tell us which weapon, we may be able to have a better idea, since I know there are a few people that do excellent weathering/paint work etc

i have seen a forum thread off-site that has someone creating a woodstock for a replica Mg42 - which might help?

Thank you for your reply JD7!
Its a Ultima MP44; it has a full steel constructed pistol grip designed to hide the motor.
The original Shoei MP44 AEG motor was too small and weak. There has been complains from owners that the gun has no space to fit a larger motor. So Ultima decided to fix that by sacrifice the shape and look of the pistol grip from the original authentic Shoei design in order to fit in a much powerful motor thats compatible with marui/systema ones.

i'll keep looking and let u know if I stumble over it again. The pics did look pretty good tho.

Search out a user called Guinness - he is The Man for this kind of thing... I guess you've tried to fit a repro wood set?

The quick answer is 'yes' though - I'd use vehicle primer first because this will stick to the metal (remember to sand the grip first) then dark brown acrylic paint, mottle it with black acrylic then use a clear sealant.

Make sure you experiment on something else first though!

I don't think that you can fit a wood set on the grip. The AEG grip dimensions are strange looking.

I dont know why they made such a odd looking grip. The original grip seems to be big enough to fit a Motor.

See my pictures:
