Just wondering, for when blank- fire becomes cost-prohibitive for public displays/battles, if you put up a large perspex wall, between public and display area, could an Airsoft battle be staged for a public show. Or is this completely off the radar, for the foreseeable future ?
This topic has been spoken about before, safety of th epublic and the absolute bordem of watching Airsoft means its pretty much an instant no no.

I suspect a large perspex wall would be more expensive than the blanks.
If you had a mixture so things were never silent, pyros going off and a few blank firing weapons on each side then I don't think having a few airsoft guns to make up the numbers would hurt. I might be inclined to go for gas or spring weapons only as I don't think the noise of an AEGs motor would blend in so well if it did happen to be overheard though that's pretty unlikely.
I know dry firing isn't exactly recomended for airsoft weapons but you could always use them without ammo. I'm sure there are ways you could rig the guns up to have a little resistance on the mechanism as a BB would provide without actually shooting anything.
Airsoft guns would be completely inaudible in a public battle. The difference in noise between a small electric motor and an explosive charge is VERY significant.
What you find already is that not all guns in a public battle will actually be firing. Amongst the firing guns there will usually be deacs and sometimes airsoft guns being used purely as props, not firing at all just being pointed at the enemy...
Yeah should have realised the noise thing straight away, it's been a while since I've seen a military display.
The range of weapons being used already isn't something I'd considered before, going to have to look closer when I see a demonstration or recording of one.
People really don't care who's running up and down, or what they're doing, they just want to hear loud bangs to scare and entertain the kids.

So true.

Yes so true. You might as well just label them goodies and badies most of the time.
We've used airsoft guns (we're pretty much all airsofters) in public battles for non firing roles (ie medics, radiomen, vehicle crews etc) as it looks better than having them unarmed. Using them to fire however just wouldn't work as perviously mentioned.

Totally reasonable, in any battle display you'll find the larger proportion of weapons on the field are deactivated and making up the numbers, out of all the public battles I've taken part in about 75% I was carrying one of my deacs. Show organisers often don't have the numbers of blank weapons required available or indeed refuse to pay the Sect 5 armourer themselves leaving re-enactors to foot the bill if the want to carry a functioning weapon. That's something that in recent years myself and many I know cannot afford to do purely for a battle demo or two over a weekend. (A full weekend private battle is a more cost effective proposition and I will still once in a blue moon pay for that)
