I also dislike having a copy of my card's both sides bouncing about in the world mail, it just feels to me that it could be copied or the info used in some way :?

Dunno about you, but I really wouldn't mind if random strangers sent me RIFs in the post using my AFRA credentials.

Seriously though, I've always used a template explaining my denfence, and added a scan of both sides of my AFRA card on it, and never had an issue.

Just getting them to put a mobile number on the parcel looks incredibly dodgy, even though it wasn't.

See edit above as to why I don't trust the royal mail or the mail in Hong Kong for that matter, once bitten twice shy  just like I won't put a shopping receipt in a bin they always get burnt.

I take care of who has access to my cards and photos these days as I once had my Fire Arm Certificate stolen in the post.

An AFRA phone number and my member number can be confirmed against the postal address of the parcel once UKBA ring AFRA and no risk has been taken.

This year’s card I have kept in the plastic sleeve it came in and the ink hasn't transferred off the card in the heat of my wallet./quote]
Thats what they are for.
We had noticed that even with a 'protective layer' the images rubbed off.
One of the executive, Rich, has a history in collecting cards. He came up with the clear pocket/sleeve idea.
Bryn likes it because it keeps everything neat and tidy.
Em likes it as she only has to print one card.

I emailed UKBA last night asking why in the 21st century it was taking over a month to process a parcel. Received a phone call this morning saying that they had released the parcel to Parcelfarce and there are charges to be paid.
Hopefully sometime in the next 20 years I`ll get a letter from PF asking for some wedge, then maybe I`ll finally get to see my M2 in the flesh.

Something in the UKBA has changed I suspect no matter what you put on the parcel there will be a stupid delay.
I have never had a problem in the past either with my simple note on the box, I have imported several guns in this way since 2009 adding a photo of myself that no one can verify over a phone would not get me a better result.

Received a letter from Parcelfarce today, £16.79 to pay. Unfortunately I`m off to the Somme for a five days so they`ll have to wait for their dosh. 8)

I got a email from UKBA complaints today :good:

Thank you for your email dated 22 July 2013 regarding the problems you have encountered in trying to contact officers at Coventry International Hub (CIH). It has been passed to me as the officer responsible for handling your complaint. Before I respond to your specific concerns I would like to assure you all complaints about Border Force staff are treated seriously and are used as an opportunity to learn and improve services.

In line with our usual procedures, which are set out in detail at http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/about ... acomplaint, I have asked the operational manager to assess the circumstances relating to the matter you have complained about. With this work now complete, I have based my response on their findings. On this occasion I am upholding your complaint and I hope my reply helps you understand the reasons why.

Border Force officers at CIH examined your parcel on 17 July 2013. Further information was required from you before the parcel could be released. I note you provided this information on
22 July 2013. Regrettably this was not passed to the correct team until 1 August 2013. The officers were then satisfied there was sufficient information to release your parcel and an email was sent informing you on 5 August 2013.

I apologise you were not able to contact officers via the telephone. Every effort is made to have an officer available to answer calls however this is not always operationally possible. Senior managers are aware customers are not always receiving the level of service they should expect.

If you believe your complaint has not been dealt with in the right way you may write to us at the address above and a complaints manager will check the process used to look into your complaint,to ensure it was both appropriate and followed correctly. You must do this within one month of the date of this letter.

The Border Force complaints team are keen to continually review and improve our services. To help us do so, we would be grateful if you could complete a short online survey. Please access the survey using the following link: http://feedback.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/ ... 35927hosbt

Yours sincerely XXXXX

Interesting. Doesn't appear to be a 'fobbing off' response (if it is then it is an elaborate one!). It is hard to determine what at what level things are breaking down, whether it is tardy staff, poor training, over-worked staff, poor management etc but anyway, you have done the right thing and done something about it not just grumble. :good:

But from now on chaps, don't put AFRA's (Bryn's) mobile telephone number on the package as it won't be answered but follow dieselmonkey's advice. I'm not sure why the number is on the back of the membership card for verification purposes either - I've had cause (as a witness!) to have phone calls from the local police recently and they have all been 'withheld' numbers.

I've had calls from shops, police and UKBA on it for verification purposes. Most show as a number and are sorted straight away. Blocked or withheld numbers I ignore, because I got sick of sales calls. Put my email address on there, it's on the AFRA website, because I get those almost immediately. I get far more verification requests by email. Another problem with phone calls is that it's hard to check the database and talk on the phone if I'm not at the computer. I have it on my phone, but can't talk and check at the same time.

Wouldn't be so bad, but the blocked numbers never leave a nessage. I had one call me four times in a few days while I was in Lille. No message left, and I'm not paying 50p to answer a "survey" ;)

They do look quite nice but are no way accurate to fire but could be ok with some work as they seem to have good range.

Mine wasn`t too bad, I cleaned the grease out of the barrel and it improved it no end. Chap on the US forum reckons they shoot better with .28`s. :)

Or, to be more correct, you can pretend to be Larry Hagman and kick down doors, then get shot in the face with a pistol by an elderly lady and then, blow yourself up with your own grenade!

Following on rom all of the above, are there actually any restrictions on importing wood rifle stocks to the UK? Would something like Evo's AFRA notice suffice to get that through?

If it's a lump of wood, with no pressure bearing parts attached, it's no different to importing a chair, It's not a firearm.

I've previously had stocks imported, and thought about possibly getting the sender to write some kind of declaration on the parcel explaining this, but in the end I just thought it would attract undue attention from HMRC, so didn't bother. They got through fine, and one of the few parcels that didn't get stung for import duty.

I finally convinced the Polish supplier to just not mention the words "rifle stock" on the box and describe it as "wood carving". Arrived fine.

He says UK customs have seized his parcels in the past but closer investigation makes me think Parcelforce have picked them out because their ts&Cs prohibit the sending of parts for fireams. They have told him they will only re-route the stocks to an RFD in the UK.

Anyway, it's donor gun time. Has anyone used such a declaraion template with Evike?

Cheers

Ranj
