Heh, to counter the US film impression tendency, you have the Doughboys who portray a US infantry unit that (to my knowledge) has no films about it at all.
But, yes I think you're right HS.
BTW, having read a bit about the japs from their perspective, I actually don't demonize them quite as much as many people seem to. I do get the 6ft western european trying to be a short far eastern chap thing though... but then I do PAVN as well, lol. (oh, quick advert, anyone want a full PAVN loadout or know a good place I can sell one?)
So my "never portrays" went to German and SS... one of the reasons being that I would feel wrong in their uniforms. Plus, "Yith in German uniform!!", I'd never live it down.

You are right there, that wouldn't be right at all.
"Yith in German uniform!!", I'd never live it down.
Oh I don't know. That black wool Panzer clobber can be rather fetching. Remember the old adage: "Once you've done black, you never go back"
Interesting that Yank is currently only marginally more acceptable than SS.

And interestingly the only photo of me in existence wearing any german kit, I have Gadge's panzer wrap on... I was drinking... No idea where that pic went!
I think it's on my old PC, i can dig it out if you like?

Nah.... I'll pass.

Probably due to the shocking simularity in US and Nazi foreign policy and regard for intenational law. :

Yeah, cos British and Soviet foreign policy was so benign...
Canadians are about the only safe faction, unless you're a fan of seal pups.

Nice uniforms, very gucci. One problem, they don't give them up easily. You have to club them over the head and steal them.

In the 20th century I'd say British foreign policy was positively pacifist compared to the USA.

id like to do a pacific game as an ozzie, from watching the movies its easy to forget that anybody other than americans faught there.then again i could go japanese for that if the americans were in it

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
Even taking into account family history (Polish grandparents at the mercy of the Red Army (I'm not going any further than that) on one side and English grandparents blitzed into the ground by Germans) I'd not have too big an issue doing either. I play as the Russians on tabletop wargaming and I see that in a similar way.
I voted "Any German" though as to be honest, with the volume of cash I have to spend these days with a young family it would be about as low on my priorities list as buying a solid gold toilet. I'd much rather go for a Chindit impression next (or finish my Brit line infantry).
Hi, no axe to grind as this is just a game so any except that I refuse to buy more kit until I wear some of it out playing!
I wanted to do Brit just because I like the webbing but went German Heer as I rekon'd it would be the most universally required to play and you need at least two sides for a game. I have brit and an SS smock though I prefer Heer if playing German. I would like more Brit games with unbalanced sides (more Germans) though it might not be easy to fill the sides.
Probably won't play American or Japanese though.

I've done all of the impressions on the list but have since sold everything other than my Brit and German kit. Though, i may rebuild my soviet kit in the future as i have just finished a Bar10/Nagant stock project. But i may never go back to US or Japanese impressions.
My main impression is a Jamaican infantry volunteer as I can wear Brit kit and represent my heritage.
I wont do SS or any other German unit as Im Mixed Race and would look rather much like a nob!
I would on the other hand do Jap as I quite like the idea of a pacific theater game and wouldn't mind banzai charging at marines
But if it was a Chindits v Japs scenario I would go Chindit.
[EDIT] If I can find evidence of a Black American combat unit I would do that otherwise no on American,I would do Russian just so I can run around the place being stereo-tyically Russian and have another cheap loadout.
Kilacommy. the only unit i can find for infantry is the 92nd. they fought in Italy. there of course were black. units in the armoured divisions. and of course the air force had the tuskegee air men. hope this helps.
thanks i already know about tuskegee pilots but its not that practical for airsoft, but thanks for telling me about the 92nd ill look into that
Just had a quick look at the 92nd infantry. tough boys and give to see some do one of the unsung divisions. the Italian campaign gets overlooked. military history has a very good article on them.
I'll have a look now
For me it is the SS (political reasons) and the Japanese (personal reasons). But as those of you who have seen me play, know I prefer some of the more esoteric stuff anyway (e.g. resistance, because it is easy to put together on a budget, Free French because it is less well covered).
I would prefer to avoid "glory" units like the US airborne, partially because I think they are a bit overdone for my tastes.
I would consider plain Heer, or Luftwaffe infantry.
To the tune of "Mademoiselle from Armentières"
Napoleons army ran away, As you do
The guard stood firm for Frances Pride, As you do
They said the guard will stand and die
But we heard what their Colonel cried
It wasn't pretty I tell you.
Resistance is fertile
