it was a tense 20 min stand off that stu.
thats the kind of reaction i talk about.
When im doing "sound effects" the only weapon i Carry and use is a blank one, (im not playing as a active team member at that point) if popped round a corner, and saw some enemy troops i do just open fire. 9 times out of 10 people run away or dive for cover. if someone shoots me back i never query it, i just die in a over the top manner.
The game is AIRSOFT so blank weapons should never be used to try and get a "KIll"
Its nice if people play allong, but never expected.
The concept could only really work with an organizer/non player using the blanks, as there just providing sound, muzzleflash and directing troops. "Game players" need to be shooting bb`s , thats what makes the game casualty system work.
If everyone had blank fire, it would just be another blank battle, but 1 or 2 in a game, just behind the action areas, making a racket just add a touch of audio atmosphere.

being shot at and not knowing where from is part of the game but i do agree that the only thing that would have made eagles a better more immersive game might have been a bit more audible gun fire during battles, however i dont think it hurt the game or detracted from objectives etc.what were looking at is finding a way that could enhance all styles of game equally and have no real negative effect unless it was too synthetic or wrong sounding.i look forward to hearing what you come up with.

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
Ear plugs WILL be given out at fuhrers escape, there will be lots of bangy things, POSSIBLY including blank weapons
Word to the wise: be very careful what you use in those tunnels! We tested a 10g charge down there and it was absurdly powerful as the tunnels focussed the pressure wave. Being in that confined space makes a massive difference. We decided that anything above a Mk5 was just too much and posed a serious danger to hearing!
'Tis true, a little goes a long way down there! I signalled endex with a Mk VIII (so we could all hear it), checking first there was no one in a short tunnel. Struck fuse, rolled it in and ducked behind a corner only to catch sight of a player wandering into the far end of the tunnel. BOOM! I felt the shockwave round the corner - poor player was knocked off his feet! (Well, not really, got a bit of a shock but thought it was awesome! )
We used several mk9s at anarchy. Admitedly only i used them as part of the game effects. It was like cw did always in unoccupied tunnels and always with a warning shout of "cover your ears" in case of any hiding players.
Players are limeted to mk5 but special effects up to a mk7 are planned
Again as with anarchy all players will get free earplugs provided. Having fired hundreds of 120mm over the years i do get the testcard tone some days. So i am planning to be safe with decibel levels, and other peoples ears

Background sound effects would add a lot to the experience. Try setting up speakers and blast the sounds of war through them. Tried it sometime waaay back and really turned up the tension.
Certainly helps - we had a sound system booming out background battle f/x at out Arnhem game in 2007 and in games subsequent we had stukas dive bombing at Dunkirk; marching boots, dogs yelping, machines whirring and the strains of Wagner down tunnels; not to mention the ethereal music surrounding the Ark of the Covenant! We have fields guns booming away, grenades exploding at your feet, mortars lobbing shells, Katyusha firing across the battle field. But no guns that go bang.

its alrady sorted , im borrowing 3 sound systems from nigel for that very purpose

I've long been an advocate of doing away with bbs altogether and using laser tag cap gun hybrids. For some reason no-one seems to share my enthusiasm.
You can still get cap guns and they're at least vaguely loud, better than an aeg anyway.
The us army miles system is like this. All weapons have a laser with a mike, and when the blank fires the laser shoots, every soldier wears a beeper vest, when hit you take your weapon key out and turn off the vest then play dead.
Problems, if you remove vest batterys your invincible,
If. You run out of ammo bang the mike with a brass case, the laser fires.
The cost is very high, and the cost of blanks is high.
Also a lot of sites woulndt get away with hundreds of blanks a minuite as sound pollution would apply.
Engagement range would increase, good/bad sites would have to be bigger , that costs more generaly, not always.
Id. Love it to take off but cost is the biggest killer

Our 'designs' for the flintsoft musket has to, we have demanded it, have a working hammer so we can put a cap in the pan for the sound.
you would think that in this the digital age that there would be some very gadgety way of accomplishing this. it would be rather satisfying to hear the report of your weapon and that of your enemy. tbh, there are very few players skilled at moving so stealthily that they can sneak up on anyone. you can usually hear the chit chat and size 10's crashing about a mile off
well i managed to get the sound and also to make it small enough for a modern AEG, needs to be smaller for rifles, trouble is getting in loud enough to be worth while. On that bit I am stuck, but glad i gave it a go. Sure one of the manufactures will come up with something once it is possible.
my son has an emulator on his "ipod" that shows all sorts of guns and the sound of them firing ,so the sound simulation exists ,its just a matter of volume and control .
