Hmm... but the odd MG would sway the whole thing. Same problem as in the trenches.

Also, we'd need more than 10 people to make it viable.

Well its just an idea at the moment.

20 a side would be ample i reckon.

Telling friend from foe could be the tricky bit, did they use armbands?

Not sure. Home made flags were used a lot for unit recognition on the revolutionary side. Even that would be v. cool.

Good link. Neck-scarves were popular too I think.

Armbands, neckscarves and hats were used, Red stars for communists, red/black for anarchists, and a red/yellow combo (amongst others) for Nationalists.

Totally agree with you there.

I think that's why Dieselmonkey initially suggested just bolt actions and handgun to get more of the feel of it.

I think ruling out or limiting smgs would just turn gameplay on its head...

Now you have all the 'for' posts out of the way here is an 'against' post! (Well 9 for, 4 against, doesn't show huge support but, meh)
I guess most people are too polite to voice an 'anti' opinion so I'll do it  Some points are slightly tongue in cheek and I'll leave it to you to work out which

Reasons why I think it's a poor idea?
1. Hundreds of 'proper' WW2 possibilities for games for which people already have kit - and want to use it.
2. Dearth of WW2 games across the country.
3. If you want to turn up to a game in rags there have been and will be games that use partisans/civilians/resistance roles
4. Pistol/bolt action games is a fine concept but no reason why it can't be a WW2 context
5. This is a WW2 forum for WW2 airsoft - 'other' games belong in a sun-section out of the way
6. No need for chaps to source more kit when the stuff they have is underused
7. It's a distraction for chaps who want to dress up in another outfit
8. A Spanish Civil War game organised means one less WW2 game organised
9. I can't be arsed to learn about the Spanish Civil War, I'm only just getting to grips with WW2
10. Playing in a game where players can only be identified by coloured armbands smacks of airsoft games I left two years ago

I think you miss the point Dave.

This is purely to see if there is an interest, there clearly is, even if only for a micro game in the future.

Just thinking of a fun alternative, it could even be an evening optional game within a game.

Personally I can never learn *enough* about history, I'd hate to limit myself to five years....

As for not being WWII well it virtually is, its a close as it possibly could be seeing as the Germans used it to train for their opening moves and its the start of the idealisitic clash between left and right wing worlds.

No, I've not missed the point, just expressed a personal opinion in response to the original question was 'Seem like a good idea?'

SCW is part of the whole WWII "story", setting the scene for a lot of what went after and so certainly has a place here. It's also something that most of us could cobble a loadout together from out of stuff we already have. Obviously it's not going to appeal to everybody but it might be a fun thing to do and won't detract from the WWII games in any way. Viva La Revolucion.

I have to agree with Dave on this one.

Might as well do a Korean war game too, and then what about Vietnam, and WW1. Oooh, how about the Japanese invasion of China?

Personally I'd like to keep things more focussed on WW2 as there are SO many theatres and campaigns to go through and it means that people won't feel the need to spend more money on more kit.

Because those are well outside the realm of WWII airsoft. Spanish Civil War isn't (quite as much anyway).

Plus it would be a lot easier and cheaper to do one of these games with stuff we already have than to attempt a Pacific or Far East scenario - blimey, even the limited changes required for the Sicily game caused a right old hoo-ha in some quarters. This whole idea probably only has a lifespan of one or two games anyway so I think it's worth a go for those that are interested in it.
