Well, I went on my first open day at a site for a long time - because some friends from my (old?) airsoft team were playing there. Ever since I've started WW2 airsoft at the beginning of the year, I've played in WW2 loadout, which is not what my team play in. Today, I thought I'd turn up in my new Brit Airbourne loadout (incomplete). By co-incidence, I met up with Tyler-D! :D And a lot of people were very interested in my MP40 (my Thompson is in bits - don't ask) - I guess we're so used to WW2 weapons, but many airsofters are not.

Anyway, it was a new site with good facilities, but the gameplay was start/stop/back-to-the-safe-zone, all day long. Really makes me appreciate the rolling play of CiA events. Thanks to all who organise them - as my (Yankee) work would say: "Kudos!"

Also met a guy who is dead keen to start WW2 airsofting, so hopefully he'll be on here soon. :)

New recruit is good! Playing at open days in WW2 gear is an excellent way of spreading the word - it's easy to forget that many 'softers aren't on the net/don't use forums/don't know about WW2 airsofting.

Your comments about our game style is much appreciated - it's how we like to play and we are glad others do too.

Yeah... I got to a LOT of open days in WW2 kit and nearly always there's someone there that doesn't know about it and is interested in finding out more.

If I remember, I make sure I have some CiA business cards with me every time.

Now that's a good idea - can anyone make some?

Bonza. You're right, Yith - going to open days in WW2 gear does spread the word.

Hi mate. Sorry I couldn't remember your forum name!

Well, it's a new site and owned by a friend of a friend, so I don't want to be overly critical. Added to that, it seems that many airsofters want something different to what I want - a good strategic game, not a series of short, sharp actions. So, the "kill house" game was ludicrous to me, although others seemed to enjoy it - it was just asking for people to get hurt, getting shot at point blank range. I guess also, almost every aspect of the gameplay is already done in a better way by CiA. eg, medic rules, instead of straight respawning, or that daft "clock" idea. Also, some of the games were a little bizarre. I think they just need a bit more experience in creating more realistic game scenarios - if the players actually want that.

So like you, I did not particularly enjoy the airsofting experience, and it wasn't helped by the Teflon Warriers, or whatever their team name was. And that's another thing with CiA - the quality of player (i.e. their honesty) is much higher. :)

Indeed, you may have noticed a large portion of my group leaving halfway through the afternoon. Unfortunately, we always seem to have bad experiences when we go on away days...

But this is digressing from the thread topic. I'll finish by saying that, if you're ever passing by Hertfordshire, drop by our site. It's not CiA, but we have fun :)

Whilst I'm sure this is making our CiA Ego swell uncontrollably :rasp: , it's fair to say that our games generally benefit from older, more experienced or mature in nature players, who also know each other . ( Not to put the younger guys down though , their game play/sportsmanship is also very high quality)
The social aspect also engenders much more fair play , as it's almost a "club" game .
There is also the fact that our games are heavily themed, it's not just turn up a play till you get bored.
Finally-we also get three months to put the games together , we don't have to come up with a new scenario every week 8)

Personally not a big fan of open days for the reasons stated , but every sites plays around with the game format , it's just a matter of finding one that suits you :D

No poaching Bodge!

Hi again Steiner, it's always good to put a face to a name (so to speak).

We made the classic error of inviting non-team members along with us so there was, sadly, a mix of both good and bad there on sunday representing our club.

Either way, your kit looked superb and I look forward to meeting up with you at a CIA eventsoon! :)

Chomely, any chance of a standard 'cia business card' file that folk could download off this site for consistancy?

I'd prefer it if you did print them, CW! Seriously though - they would look much better on card than if I printed them on my crummy inkjet on little pieces of paper.
