Regrettably other than Mad Jack Churchill and Lt Cairns... sword use on the battlefield by Brit officers was somewhat limited

Excellent pics Gadge!
Pics from a WW2 game at the Hill in Dundee a couple of weeks back, trying out my new Stg44. Going for a late '44 look.
Was pleased to find that I wasn't the only German for a change!

Nice to see a solid regular Heer impression rather than the usual 'dipped in glue and thrown into a bucket of camo' look that many favour.

KD and bare knees FTW. Here is an impression of an officer in Italy circa 1944 - should I ever need such an impression
Very nice Martin, but.. stick under *left* arm as you cant salute with it under your right

DOH. I actually flipped the picture. It was under my left arm but my copy of the Infantry Training Manual 1914 has a pic of a Warrant Officer saluting with his left arm, stick under right arm so I thought I'd got it wrong.
Very smart and massive tent envy
I think to be honest you can have it under either but i was carrying mine under my right arm at Tutbury and Nige pointed out it made me unable to salute so I'd just have to give and 'eyes right/left' instead...
A long time ago i used to teach 'compliments and saluting' to recruits and there was along and very boring section about the protocol of having something in your right hand or having both hands full... it was interminably dull and I cant remember for the life of me the wording but I seem to recall it actually being permissable to salute with the left hand if you were injured in the right arm or unable to drop something you were carrying in that arm...
Like i say a decade ago and a 1990s drill manual isnt something I've kept (unlike a 1935 one which i clearly far more interesting )
edit: ah apparently it's injured arms...
"02237. Saluting with the Left Hand. A soldier who has injured his right hand or arm will salute with the left hand."
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
According to someone on Great War Forum:
Until July, 1917 British soldiers saluted with both hands; the right hand for saluting to the left or the front and the left hand for saluting to the right...
Which would explain the pic in the 1914 manual.

Grossdeutschland m43 jacket.
It is a black wound badge, just badly worn.
A big improvement. So, you're GD Pioniere? If you can make it over to the UK, you'd fit in well at the Schaulen event.
