Well I got bored I suddenly wanted to see how well my post war lufty trousers went with the tunic I got from SoF.

Also thought I'd see if it goes with/without the helmet cover-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

The kit is the standard package from WPG. Some of it is iffy in quality. If I could turn back time and so on - well, I can't. The boots will need to be swapped though as one heel burst out in a perfect bloom of what looks like cardboard - that after a single rough rainy day. The WPG canteen (webbing not shown on the pics) is nearly impossible to ram into the webbing and once there, nearly impossible to withdraw. I hope all of this stuff will start looking more field-respectable with proper wear.

Heh, the real thing is too - we all find the easiest plan is to ask a mate to remove it or unbuckle it so you can have a drink! You could also put the bottle in the front divider of your small pack instead, or have a second bottle there.

But you could try soaking the sleeve in water and stretch it as best you can, drop the bottle in and allow the webbing to dry naturally. One caveat - if the webbing is repro then it may shrink when wet - genuine webbing is pre-shrunk in manufacture -so you could be making things worse.

Cheap boots are a poor buy - Lennon ammo boots are the real thing for £100 or so, still made today on the original lasts and using traditional construction and techniques..

I've found over the years that eventually the carrier will stretch and it will become easier to remove/replace the water bottle.

Yes, I've already looked them up and it's probably what I'll buy. The cardboardy looking thing in the WPG sole really shocked me.

Looks better without IMO.

I'm suprised no ones commented on the UK WWII desert boots rather than roughouts and the UK no2 dress trousers.

If its the lack of a t-shirt that is the obvious thing that makes me feel less farby :)

I prefer a white t-shirt it's more early war... ;)

Also, for officer, perhaps add rank and AoS insignia to your shirt collar. It's fairly well hidden there and can be flashed as required.

Is that a compass pouch you have?

Dress trousers look fine as do the boots...

Cheers Yith i know you know your stuff so appreciate you saying its allright, i was expecting someone to slate it :)

i was going 'generic' at the moment, while i've bought some rank and officers cap badge the garrison cap is ORs and its *really* nice (cheers spiers) so i'm loathe to farb it up and put officers insig on a lovely ors cap (unless thats ok? I know pre 1941 officers caps were piped in service colour... i could say i'm an old school officer who refuses to wear the new sort but thats the sort of 'shoehorning' i hate :) )

The belt kit is on loan from blaine and is compass pouch (with us compass), carlisle pouch (with game bandage in), pistol holster and a water bottle carrier on the back. Thompson bag over shoulder... i want to keep the kit light and be stuff i'll actually use in a game

Once i get my helmet from Jeff i'm intending to look into properly rank badging it up to be able to run the US side at gunman events (josh misses being german :) ) but for the weekend i'll probably just stick a rank badge on the cap and live with it being the wrong type.

At a later date i'll buy an officers piped one but i reckoned if i'm going 'soft cap' the jeep cap was a more realistic 'field' option until i get an M1.

big learning curve for me so all the constructive criticism much appreciated.

as for white t-shirts i did read they were initially worn in the field but were bullet magnets so the guys dyed them with coffee grounds?

Any truth in that, i think i read it on the 'at the front' website.

the tankers jacket is my new favourite coat, its really really comfy!

Early days the Marines did, who got theirs from the Navy who liked em.

Thing is the marines used 'em more 'openly' given the temperatures. They are underwear and I am not sure about this 'no white in combat', it has the ring of re-enactorism to it, but I cannot prove a negative. It would only be visible if you were doing some form of work duty/in camp in the summertime sunshine. Pretty sure I have seen pics showing the white. plus they are not modern t-shirts, they are '40s stylee'

But there are also plenty of pics without a t-shirt - not everyone wore them, so you can simply avoid the issue by not wearing one. I don;t think they cut the jib for blood and guts officer... to 'manual labour-y'

Do you need an M1 for the weekend Gadge? If so I've got one going spare.

Are you talking about our very own local-ish bootsmith http://www.williamlennon.co.uk/ perchance? I can't see anything apart from WW1 boots on the website.

Meh, I've worn my white t-shirt pretty much every time I've worn my uniform and I don't think I've been a bullet magnet. Mind I also have my rank plastered on my helmet, etc. Snipers.. what are they? ;)

No, you can't put your officer's rank on your EM garrison cap. I'd also definitely not wear it in the field. Perhaps try a Jeep cap if you can't get a helmet, they might even have one at your local surplus store?

As for the belt, I assume the carlisle pouch is round the back then? I think it looks better on the right side, front. Use it for what it was used for and keep your bandage in it. If you've not got a compass in the compass pouch then I'd remove it from the belt I think.

You have to contact them to find out about their super duper officer and OR ammo boots. :)
