Critiques: The photograph was taken at such an angle it causes the following problems. The shadow of the photographer is visible and you are facing the sun causing you to squint badly.
And I wouldn't know about the beard, but the uniform looks good

I think the Germans let infantry/army have beards in the field, i've seen it in a few pics, especially in Russia for obvious reasons.

SS Gebirgsjaeger (indeed all GJ) were allowed to have beards (though there were a few rules about it). Nowt like a bit of face fuzz to keep the chill off the face when climbing in the Austrian Tyrol!
