erm, yes its VFC and i dont think i will lose any of it.

the carry handle was issued later on in the war, which is the impression im going for.

and the bipod was not post war, it was actually pre war, was developed in 1938-39 and was issued in 1940.

so, i'm keeping it as it is :good:

I did not mean to offend you. Hey if you are happy with it, fine! :good:
I have the BAR as well and after doing some research i decided to ditch the carry handle for WW2 Impressions (and believe me i wanted
to keep it because it looks nice  ) Do you have a WW2 picture of the carry handle in use? I know none.
About the bipod, yes they were used in WW2, but not the version you have. The "top screw feet" may be OK for a 1945 impression
but the "stamped head" was never used in WW2 as far as i know.

If it's a latewar load then why the M42's? unless your just refering to the BAR and not the whole loadout

market garden. alot of guys who were dropped in after the first jump aparently wore whatever they could get thier hands on.

but i was meant to wear my m43's but i can't find them :( think theyre in my dad's van.

and Glenlivet45 sorry, i didnt mean to come accross as rude, i read up on it somewhere but the only place i can find this morning ( only got about 10 minutes so cant spend ages hunting around. )

"In 1938–1939, work was begun on what would become the new M1918A2, accepted into service in 1940. One of the most important aspects of this modification involved removal of the semi-automatic firing capabilities of the weapon and using a rate-reducing buffer mechanism, activated by engaging the "F" position on the selector toggle. Furthermore, a new skid-footed bipod was fitted to the muzzle end of the barrel, magazine guides were added to the front of the trigger guard, the handguard was shortened, a heat shield was added to help the cooling process, a small monopod was hinged from and folded into the butt, and the weapon's role was changed to that of a squad light machine gun. The BAR's rear sight scales were also modified to accommodate the newly-standardized M2 Ball ammunition with its lighter flat-base bullet. In 1942, a fiberglass buttstock replaced the wood version, and late in the war, a barrel-mounted carrying handle was added." wikipedia

isn't my bipod the skid footed one?

and as it says, a barrel-mounted carry handle was added late in the war. guessing around 44/45

if anyone has any further detailed information it would be muchly aprieciated.

but i've taken it all of now as i prefer my 35th infantry, and obviously for weight ect. none of the 'extras' as you might say were added.

Hi,

Yes you do have a skid footed bipod, but a very late war one at best. As i wrote before the "head" holding the feet
(maybe a better word is legs) is not WW2, the legs maybe OK for WW2 1945. I have a similar problem, i have a correct
WW2 real steel head, but i do not have the bottom screw legs.

I have found absolutely no proof whatsoever of the carry handle in WW2 use. Even though it was designed in late 1944.

There was a really nice website were all of this was explained in detail. But i can not find it anymore...

Probably a very similar situation as with the British entrenching tool helve with the bayonet lug on the end. Designed and produced during the war, but never got to be issued to front-line troops as it wasn't important enough/instantly needed.

There is a larger issue with the use of a BAR by paratroopers other than the carry handle and type of Bi-pod. They were never issued to paratroopers. They did not appear on the TO&E for paratroopers.
They were considered un-safe to jump with, the paratroop rifle squad was based on an lmg rather than the BAR of the infantry.

ok, looks like i will have to stick to my m1 garand with my airborne stuff then :(

i used the BAR with my 35th infantry today without the extras. loving the lightness of not having that bloody bipod!

i may sell the bipod and carry handle and get a few more mags.

Hey Tom, don't get ride of them on the account of accuracy of one impression, if you're doing a 35th infantry impression then definately keeps it, in Kelly's Heroes pretty sure there was carry handle and bipod on their BAR (Note: I'm not using Kelly's Heroes as a measuring stick for historical accuracy...howver it is a great film!)

Here's a littlebit Finnish loadout. Rifle isn't Finnish, as you see, but there were very few Mauser rifles in use. Boots are civilian model, wich wasn't so uncommon in Finnish army during war.-- attachment is not available --
