The thread has disappeared already so someone obviously knows more than us - in advance of us.
So here is what has been released on the Pst! forum
As G181 says - Lack of interest - not only that but apathy and an elemnt of downright anti event actions and feeling have put htis in jeapordy - at the moment on ice and trying to either salvage or re-arrange for a later date.
Loads of Germans - LOADS - wanting to do it.
Allies - very few. Many thanks to the airsoft re-enactment community who have supported this but the amount of negative crap foisted upon us by "diehard" re-enactors who either are too wuss to live in the field for two days in December and/or reticent to "purchase a RIF just for one event" has been both laughable and unbelieveable. Now the new AGM Sten is out and very affordable I wonder how many will rutn tail and clamour for some events to "get some in"?
Meyer posted a thread about why is there a lack of private events. I'll tell you why - because re-enactors in the main are idle and want it all doing for them. Then when it is set up they all piss on it and pull it to bits. Money talks adn bullshit walks - This holds true amongst our ranks. A person or persons set up an event based on what they hear to be needed/wanted. They put in a large amount fo work and some investment (rarely returned I hasten to add) and then when it is announced the nay sayers leap in - Saying how ti is too hard, not right, wrong scenario, a blat fest, too elitist, too expensive, too far away, wrong time of year etc. etc. etc. Take your pick. So I say - at this moment in time - what's the point? This generation is NOT the generation I started with. They just can't hack it fulls top.
So the short answer is - It's not happening on the date specified - but that's not to say it won't happen. Let's look at 2010 when people have less on their mind and maybe a little more imagination and backbone.
PS - and YES I AM pissed off about it - what's gone on surrounding this venture will NOT be forgotten and some will get told in plain English where to go when they come snickelling back to take part.
End of.

LOOK! I ham now four meggle man!

I'm dismayed at the response you got
If you want to organise a private battle perhaps on a smaller scale, i'm sure we can muster at least a section or two of brits from PBI dates permitting, i think we definitely have the same ethos.
Let me know if you can make Freshman with a few guys who might not have tried airsoft before?

A crying shame about this. I was looking forward to it and it had priority for me over the CiA bash and my Dad's birthday! ![]()
However it being postponed (hopefully thats all it will be) means my life is a lot simpler as will now be able to attend the CiA bash and my Dad's birthday celebrations. ![]()
Suffice to say I will be looking forward to hearing more about a replacement event!
Just a quick favour though... There was a virtual comms blackout on the event from June till now. I know you were very busy with other events and that it has to be understood that other things took priority but it didn't look good from here. Is there any chance of a bit more activity next time (if there is a next time?) ![]()

Not disappeared, moved out of the way to clear events section.
While I can understand your disappointment (having had to cancel an event ourselves and I was looking forward to Westwald) I can't help but think that to a degree a lack of marketing may be to blame and a stamping of feet may not help a great deal long term. The last posts on advertising threads were in early July (it is late October now, just 40 days from the event date) and potential participant's question posted across forums have remained unanswered. Initial posts were secretive.
See how Boryzyn and Kasserine sections took off and filled with posts and enthusiasm? It didn't just happen. Throwing up a game and expecting punters to turn up is a big ask - especially something as ambitious as Westwald. There is a huge misunderstanding among trad reenactors about what airsoft can bring to private battles. Westwald might have broken through - it had the potential to.
So, looking forward to a relaunch next year - perhaps with a better 'sell' next time. ![]()

PD you have my backing for re-arranging the date of this game, I was looking forward to sculking in a ditch for 2 days, huggin my M1 Garand for dear warmth.
Shame its not happening, however when it does, we'll be there

Not having it in the middle of winter would also be a bonus
At Op Alsos I kipped down with a blanket instead of a sleeping bag and even though I was wearing modern thermals, woolen uniform, greatcoat and balaclava I was so cold I thought I'd die. The temperature was just above zero. Add in high wind or rain and it would have been unbearable. However hardcore an airsoftenactor might claim to be on a forum, the reality is that harsh conditions tend to lead to lots of people going home before quittin' time (at best) or being so tired and grumpy they overlook basic safety precautions either during the game or on the drive home (at worst).
Just my opinion
The requirement wasn't for sleeping in trenches/fox holes - for some reason the myth perpetuates! Tentage was perfectly acceptable, indeed authentic and perfectly normal. Weirdly, there are some chaps who do like to do the dying-in-your-sleep-in-a-fox-hole thing and this would have been fine, if that's their bag. Body bag, that is. ![]()

Techinically the 5th December is still Autumn. Winter starts on the 21st Dec. ![]()
It's funny, because at the two event in November and December over the last two years I've been toasty warm. I was inside my pup tent though. The key is to keep off the ground. A few spruce branches are a good bet, if you want to be authentic. A rollmat if you don't.
Oh, and all that stuff about losing 80% of heat through your head is bollocks. It's a good idea to keep it warm, but areas like your core and thighs are much more important.

I'm not talking about tents. I was on a camp bed in the back of a van and was still close to death. Heide slept on the ground outdoors and was toasty warm. The difference is a modern sleeping bag (a proscribed item for this event) vs. a blanket. The point I'm making is that It's easy to underestimate just how much better the modern stuff is compared to the period stuff. And personally, I lose 80% of my heat through my bollocks.
IF you want to bring a camp bed and a lilo along with a case of pot noodles - stay away. If you want to whine about it afterwards -stay away. This is going to be hard core.
Sleeping in a metal van can be colder than under canvas, or in a well constructed natural bivouac. Strange but true.

I invite all who doubt me to undertake the Hardcore Challenge - sleep outdoors for one night wearing as much uniform as you like in any tent / bivvy you like but with no camp bed, no bed roll and no sleeping bag.
Then do a day's work rather than going to a warm bed for 8 hours.

I'm not sure Heide was toasty warm!
But yes, H&S first. I had a very cold/sleepless night at Alsos with tent, camp bed, blankets, -20 sleeping bag, blankets, roll mat, thermarest, full clothing. Something weird is going on - at home I sleep with t-shirt, a nothing-special duvet and windows wide open even in winter and I'm snug even with arms out of bed. Baffling.
Still, I am nowhere near dying and not suffering from hypothermia - just not, well, cosy. OK, I'm a softy - but I can put up with one nights discomfort as part of the experience, and this is the reason d'etre, I would have thought.

I did this on a patio when I was 17. I wasn't aware I was doing it at the time, and woke up very confused. It may have had something to do with the whole bottle of Pernod I had consumed.

Sure. The younger you are, the more you can hack this sort of stuff. I'm also especially sensitive to cold. It makes me very humpy very quickly.
I previously declared myself game for PDs event and I'd still like to go when it has a new date - however in light of my experience a few weeks ago I'll be taking a LOT of clothes with me ![]()
I have one thing to say about cold weather in the winter.
Tactical heated caravan
Real shame another event has been knocked this year. Ive had 4 now
, all recovered but still an arse! It is a sign of the times and though the begining of the year was awesome, the end has been tight! roll on 2010 and hopefully a good year for all the events.
keep your chin up PD and good luck next year matey.

Actually, I was alternating between being fairly warm, to being absolutely freezing! Without the Russian greatcoat over me in my sleeping bag, I'd have been pretty uncomfortable. Mind you, it was better than trying to sleep in that bloody barn, surrounded by the frog chorus. Also nice to prove to myself that I can still hack it should it be absolutely necessary!

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Heh! I still haven't turned my central heating on. I'd always prefer to be a bit cold, rather than a bit hot.

Have to agree Martin, last Crich but one I wanted to do the whole weekend as authentic as possible and only took the contents as should be of a small pack and large pack for the three days. My one modern concession was a thin goretex bivvy bag.
Sleeping in BD, Sweater, cap comforter and 1940s blanket I was so cold i couldn't sleep (this was march) and ended up getting up and preparing breakfast around 5.30 Am just to get the fire going!
That was in the big WWII era tent too and not under the stars or in a building or modern windproof tent.
Now I have in my time slept in ditchs in my kit on exercise but even modern combats and your NBC suit kept me much warmer than the 40s kit did.
I mean how much realism do you want, should we get lice and trenchfoot to really get into the feel of things too ![]()

LOL ...never played at IED then?....snow on the bivi bags and all ..give it a go at their next E&E!

Martin, did you have a roll mat on your camp bed? With no mat you're basically allowing the cold air to flow around your whole body and to freeze your underside. I made that mistake at the same Crich event Gadge refers to - I slept in a 4 season bag (admittedly very old) with no mat on a camp bed and almost froze.
