From the same era we get the expression "Pom", which is a bastardisation of "POHM", or "Prisoner of His Majesty". (Ironic that the aussies now call us "Poms"!).

Another possible urban myth I am afraid:

If you like stuff about the origin of words you should get a copy of Bill Bryson's "Mother Tongue". It's not one of his annoying travel books, but a very interesting and totally non-stodgy work on the origins of popular words and phrases. "Made in America" is pretty good too (half of the yank words we like to mock are actually Elizabethan English and can be found in Shakespeare)

Got that call on the intercom at 7:44 am which could only mean my Denison had arrived. Sure enough, it had, and I then spent the whole day at uni wishing I could get home. Got home at 4:37. Cue a good 20 minutes walking around my apartment in full kit brandishing my 1911 and feeling rather happy with myself.

Today I went to work and banged my head against my desk as the fax machine is yet again picking what paperwork it wants to send to the office at the vehicle park, am tempted to take my MP40 to it! :slap:

"Will you stop talking about the war!!"
"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."

Finally finished my gun rack, (well mostly finished)

Pete, are you sure you've built it big enough?

Probably not there's only enough room for 23 guns, but it's as big as the space would allow

...spent ANOTHER 5 hours in A&E getting a nosebleed fixed. Hopefully properly this time.

At least I didn't need to go by ambulance this time.

Fixed my P38 hop so that it actually does something. I now have to use .36s on 134a (which I just ran out of- hope I can get some for alsos)or I'm shooting skyward but they're getting good range. :giggle: On green the hop has no effect on the .36s but the .25s are ok. :?
I've also stripped down my tanaka bolt for a clean and relube, had 2 years worth of gunk in it.

Last night I repaired a 1945 dated, war dept marked, camp bed that had a big rip in it.

I also did most of my packing for alsos.

Am deciding wetheror not I should go to my local skirmish game on saturday in my Airborne rig armed with my MP40 and 8 low caps, i know it's suicide but have just reached that point with work that I really really really want to kill someone or destroy something with a sledgehammer

Would your local site happen to be Urban Assault? That would be suicide, but worth it to show up the teflon boxmagers. Thankfully they're less common at the woodland site.

I have not been to either sites in over three years as I could not stand the cheating and the total disregard to their own rules of people with hot rifles would be banned, there was a dragonov firing at 700fps at urban assault and he got told to borrow another weapon, seeing as it was 300fps over the limit and he knew that it was, the site team was on of the main problems with cheating and breaking the safty rules by firing in the safe zone, aparently it has improved but I am not convinced.

I've not been to the urban site but I've also heard it is better than it was. How much better remains to be seen. I've not seen many problems at the woodland site thankfully. What site are you thinking of going to then? I don't know of any near peterborough that have a game on saturday.

I've not decided yet, last time I used to go they ran one every weekend, but that must have changed now, any ideas when the woodland site is open again?

They run alternate weekends at the urban and woodland sites. This weekend its the woodland on Sunday. I shall not be there to say hello myself as I'm off to Alsos but I'm sure you'll get a good reception in your Brit kit. I often go in my German and a friend of mine has US kit. We're trying to get more people interested in WW2 as there aren't that many in the area.

If you're wanting a game though what about Alsos? There is still one place left and there is plenty of spare German kit knocking about.

I have been tempted, but cant bring myself to wear it yet, I've moved back over this way from Stafford only a couple of weeks ago, and I'm trying to get one of my mates interested, you may know him from urban and woodland, Mat willis, looks like penfold from DM, am trying to get him to try out a game or two and see if I can convert him to the future(well, kind of),

Discovered that Denison is perfect for New Zealand rainforest. Had a profitably awesome game as a result. :happyclap:
