Yeah amoungst airsofters there was (and maybe still is) a feeling of "keep quiet and maybe we'll go unnoticed" that prevailed for many years. I think only recently with the work of the ABA thats finally been turned around.

British news isnt so bad. I lived in the US for 4 months and THAT has some seriously closed news (ie if it doesnt involve the US its not worth reporting on). When I was over there I heard nothing about the fuel blockades and shortages here in the UK (2000) until I happened to phone my dad and was shocked that Id not heard a peep.

No longer involved in airsoft.

I have suggested that we invite the bald guy off the gadget show CH5 along to a WW2 event as he has been playing WW2 on line for a few years now.
It would/ could have been good PR even if he was invited on his own with no film crew maybe and maybe later on come back with a team.

I also belive all airsoft events should have a large red sign posted to say what is going on, so the general public don't go ringing the police even though the police have been informed we are there.

Each time the police are contacted about some bloke with a gun they are supposed to check it out even if they know we are there the reported incident may have nothing to do with us, so it would be stupid for them to ignore it.

It is our responsibility to try and stop the report in the first place.

On the Eagles day some of us had to walk accross a road with all our kit on, many peole would probably think filming was going on I suppose.
But with all the events going on around the country in different locations we are asking to get a bad name for our selves.

Just a request... before anyone suggests inviting any media to our events, please don't.

Apart from the obvious problems with the media and replica guns, we can't afford the time to deal with them. We want to concentrate on the event and not have to babysit a reporter, photographer and/or film crew!

I'm going to labour the point here, as the blunt one

CiA as the organisers of events will decide whether we want media involvement or indeed anybody else's involvement in our events. I appreciate the intentions behind this thread, and thank you for any suggestions , however please don't take things into your own hands with our events.
Finally all such arrangements would also have to be with the full consent of any site owner, as ultimately it would effect their businesses.

It's probably 2 years too late to make a difference now anyway!
You can not compete with lies by the press and the government wanting you shut down, just by telling your friends and family we are nice people really.

Maybe there are some other airsoft sights that are prepared to try something to gain some good PR. Does anyone know of any?
I do believe if any action is taken that it should be by a well-organised site and event.
I think one held at Close Action may have been turned against us but I don't know because I missed the screening on CH4.
I think that one was suspect anyway because they came looking for us not us for them.

I put this suggestion to Yith a few days ago and I fully understand his request as he has said!

Ive was here in 1996 with my LEGAL handguns

the TURDs in goverment took a glock 17, a glock 21, an m1 carbine, and a .357 magnum snub, off me.(all real, fireing full calibre rounds)

THERE WAS MASSIVE media contact, protests , petitions, and not just by thousands of shooters, all invoved in the industry, ammo, accessories etc, complaind.
over 100,000 jobs were affected throughout the industry

BUT NO, THE GOVERMENT said gun crime has to fall, and so were banning legal handguns, A TOTAL KNEE JERK ,VOTE WINNER one of labours manifestos

GUESS WHAT , all the little GANGSTAS havent handed theres in, and in the last 10 years gun crime has trebled.

so I WONT register, ill just keep my airsoft stuff as it is. im sure some softers will continue, even if theres a ban, look at the foxhunters, theve not stopped.

ON private land , not many people can see what goes on

sorrry i always rant when goverment talk about bans

Just a little point, the VCR Act bans the importation, sale and manufacture of "realistic imitation firearms", it doesn't do jack shit to the ones you already own. However, we now have a specific defence as Airsoft skirmishers to buy, import and build 'em. The details are being worked out at the moment...

I agree i read somewhere that it is illegal to ban the selling of toys within europe and as these are classified as toys it should be allowed but as ever our elected dictatorship probably has some exemption listed under 'interests of national security. Having lived the better part of my life in a police state, this is all too familiar.....

Oh i thought that they were, they're not classified as fire arms surely? the really insane thing is I can go and buy an airgun or airpistol which could actually do some serious harm, i dont need a licence or to be registered at a site, etc etc

The whole issue is of course insane and makes no sense whatsoever so there is little point in bringing rationality into the debate!

BTW the 'toy' element that is sometimes refered to is mearly a technicality of customs duty classifications and nothing to do with legality or legislation.

"Toy" must be under 0.08J (its a CE thing). Anything that fires over this yet under 1.35J is in a nice big grey area, as it is neither a toy, nor a firearm.

I on the otherhand Am Both Blearist and Blairist. I strongly believe that if you give them a torch, a map and rough instructions, they would both have trouble finding their arseholes. TIP for you Its under your nose, it wear all the stupid shitty ideas come out.

So Sorry for thet, but it helped.

Aparently, replicas of firearms degined befour 1880 will fall outside the ban, specifically because the government is afraid of re-enactors changing the way they will vote. Crazy.

The realy crazy thing is that their is another bill in the pipeline that will ban many swords. So let me get this strait.Because their are a lot of Napolionic, ACW and ECW re-enactors, that the government wants to keep on side, their gunns will be exempt from the VCR Act. But because the government wants to bee seen to be doing somthing about stabbings with tools and kitchen knives, they want to ban the swords carried by Napolionic, ACW and ECW(not too mention all the other periods).

Oh you just know that they'll pull something out of their arse just before the election to keep the muppet army happy.

I read in the independant that Noel Ghallegar (or however you spell it) was quoted as saying "For me politics is like football" and I think this is the honest problem of politics today. Many people treat it like a football match and as long as the team you support wins, who cares. You dont bother to look at policies, track history or other such thing, you simply look for that tiny feeling of satisfaction that the team you supported won.

THAT is why labour was re-elected after the Iraq war fiasco and its why Im seriously worried they'll "win" again.

I just think we need a change.

Labour is now like the tories was when they had been in power for ages last time. They're too complacent and have too much power.

I think a change now would probably be a good thing...
