Following on from Platoon 1s post about changing history I was thinking about what plausible but interesting hypothetical clashes could you have.
I came up with the following
Valkyrie... the plot works and the army turn on the ss in Germany... axis civil war
Axis jungle warfare - just as they sent the DAK in to bail out the italians imagine the japanese fair poorly and Hitler sends a DAK type formation into the jungle to fight the chindits
Germany 1946/7 - allied supply line blockages mean stalemate in 1945 giving the germans breathing space - a super high tech WWII game
Sealion - nuff said
Russians vs US/brits - the guards shock army refuse to stop in germany and push on to try and occupy Europe.
Now Im not suggesting we run any of these any time soon... plenty of genuine wwii games to get under our belts but food for thought all the same.. ideas?

Commando Raids at the Peenamunde V2 missle facility in North Germany
Axis pushing the Allies back into the sea on the D-Day beaches (If the chaps of Ox and Buck's hadn't held their ground at Pegasus bridge) Dunkirk all over again?
rommel holding out for a few more days in north africa and the mareth line holding, el alamein is a defeat for the brits, axis forces in egypt and move through palestine, meet up with axis forces in the south balcans/middle east.
kesselring counter attacks at anzio, allies forced to evacuate italy.
and of course the biggy, germans win at stalingrad.
Britain and France counter-attack within a week of Fall Weiss, the Soviets decide not to capitalise and Germany is on the defensive in 1939.
Fook me how do you think them up so fast glad to see some thing good could come out of my topic.
Hows about this :The Axis never tried to take Moscow but instead joined forces. GERMANS AND RUSSIANS battle together to take the world he he he (evil laughter)
Or, Hilter sues for peace with Britain and her allies and, against history, succeeds. They then all join forces against the Russians.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Hitler returns from the dead in 1948 with hordes of Nazi zombies (Cod: WAW) (Headshot only kills)

See plot of Books SSGB and Fatherland. SSGB is the better book, deals with aftermath of SeaLion and a continuing Nazi Soviet Pact.Which in turn would give Japan a reason to leave the Axis and a Joint US-Japanese invasion of Siberia in 1942 culminating in a US defeat at Staingrad.
Hmm, so many to choose from!
Hitler successfully takes Moscow, then turns to Operation Sealion, which is a resounding german success: Brits in full-on last-ditch rearguard action, and Guerrilla warfare with the HG Auxillary Units.
or, Hitler successfully assassinated in '42, Heer generals assume leadership, and successfully sue for peace with England. Himmler deposed from SS, and units re-integrated into the Heer, followed by combined British and German invasion of Russia.
Brits in full-on last-ditch rearguard action, and Guerrilla warfare with the HG Auxillary Units.
I think that would be a good one. A partisan type with a small number of auxillaries making near suicidal attacks on occupied facilities and assasinating collaborators and then being hunted down by the German forces.
What about;
Eagles nest- Hitlers last stand in the Alps.
Warsaw uprising- the Red army doesn't halt outside the city but pushes forward and joins the fight against the Germans.
Norway- The allied invasion of Norway in 1942 to liberate it from the Germans.
Dieppe- the German defences collapse and the allies decide to exploit the raid turning it into a full scale invasion.
The Rhineland 1936- Britain and France resist the remilitaisation of the Rhineland and the war in Europe kicks off 3 years early.
Siberia- Japan agrees to Hitlers demands and attacks Russia from the East (very what if as we have no Japanese).
The invasion of Malta or Gibraltar by axis forces.
Hitler becomes a full time art student, the UK stays home and make tea, in the mean time the US are so bored they start war on them selfs.
Tired ?? come and i will put you too sleep BANG BANG
Thread edited to keep this on topic of 'what if scenarios' (and please try and think of ones that make a feasible game in the future)
If you want we can discuss filmsim/airsoft/re-enactment in off topic.
Cheers G
(although i'm aware i sort of started it i'm also finishing it here as it was going on on a tangent... so lets have some more what ifs!)

Merville battery doesnt exactly translate to a great game if you thing about it.
You need a big bloody emplacement, *tons* of land mines and barbed wire and incredibly swampy site...
But the big killer is that the entire game revolves around one side relentlessly attacking the other.
A good game needs to be able t have scope for both sides to attack and defend, its also needs to have taken time over some hours if you're going to spend a weekend doing it.
Now the assault went in at 4.30 am and finished at 5am...
Not a *massive* amount of gaming to get in there( you could get four hours of play in if you did a game that involved the three hours of the lads trying to find each other in the dark and drowning in lakes...)
It *could* make a decent engagement of 45 mins or so in a PBI type game but the effort of sorting out a 'battery' to attack for three quarters of an hours play would be ridiculous.
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
By that do you mean 'D-day''?
Merville battery was one target for 6th Airborne Div.
Before D-day (the night before) 6th Airborne were the first allied soldiers to touch ground in mainland occupied Europe (the Staffords have the honour of being thr first to invade Europe in Siciliy - op huskey). They landed at about 12.30, spent 4 hours trying to find each other and form up and then took the battery in 30 minutes.
There wasnt really any battle leading up to that as the invasion hadnt begun until they got there...
It was the 9th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment and parachute trained Royal Engineers, not Commandos btw.

Are you thinking of Pegasus bridge? It was Lovat's commandos that arrived to re-enforce the Airborne troops who were holding that I believe.
A commando unit attacked it the day after d-day and it was barely manned.
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Pardon my lack of intelligence, but I'm not sure what the name of the operation is.
(And it's not really a what if)
Western France, where I think it was 4 Commando attacked a port in a british frigate disguised as a German ship, made it all the way down the esturary, and the nose of the ship was rigged with loads of explosives to puncture a hole in a german dry dock wall to flood the sub pens.
Could do a what if, that the Commandos were the tip of the spear in the D-Day landings, because of it being a port the heavy ships could have sailed in and dropped off the heavy equipment directly onto the quay side, rather than on a beach.
[edit] St. Nazaire Raid it was called "The Greatest Raid of all"
"After almost an hour of firing and manoeuvring, with twenty dead or seriously wounded, the British surrendered. Sergeant T. F. Durrant, who had manned a Lewis Gun during the clash, kept firing despite being shot over sixteen times and severely wounded; eventually he passed out from loss of blood and died. He was later posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross upon the personal recommendation of Kapitänleutnant F. K. Paul, the German officer in command of the Jaguar."
Can't think of a sight that has a beach included...would be nice to have another event where a beach got stormed though.
