Hi, I wanted to be Brit as a first choice but at the time, I was planning to go to my first ever ww2 airsoft game (PBI Varsity) and there were zero Germans booked in but twenty Brits.

I looked at the kit costs and realised the German option (at the time) was much cheaper and quicker to acquire. I had a bit of a problem with the Nazi thing but went for Heer as they were just canon fodder like us, caught in the middle and thought they were doing the right thing.

Since then, with some rummaging, I have got a Brit airlanding kit so I can play PBI but don't mind swapping sides if we are struggling for numbers.

For me it's all about the game and filmsim atmosphere rather than historical accuracy - that can come in time.

Allies and Allies only.

I have no problem with people playing as Huns and have a natural, historical interest in the kit but large numbers of my late uncles, grandfathers, greatfathers and at least one grandmother and one aunt would be spinning in their graves if I put on a Gerry uniform.

Plus they lost and I'm soooooooo tired of the 'we were just soldiers' codswallop in every German WW2 memoir I've ever read!

You could say the same of allied soldiers! Oops, I forgot, they WON the war, so got to write the history books. I'm no revisionist and the Nazi regime did some terrible things but you can't blame the common soldier for any of it.

Anyhoo, I chose German simply because of the diversity of kit, the innovative weapons and tactics and, as a young lad, I grew up on a making Tamiya and Airfix models and the German stuff was really cool. Plus, I've BEEN in the British army (as have many of my ancestors), so have no desire to do it from an airsoft point of view. U.S forces don't interest me because, frankly, they were a bit rubbish (over reliant on artillery, airpower and numbers).

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

I had relatives on both sides. Simple toss of the coin decided whether I went either German or British.

Interesting comment. My grandfather (dad's side of the family) admitted to being far from a saint on the Eastern front - but he also said that when fighting against the western allies, it was almost like a different war entirely. In reality, *no* part of the German forces were 100% clean. The FJ in Crete burned villages (without removing the inhabitants first), the Heer in the Warsaw Ghetto, the Kriegsmarine with unrestricted submarine warfare, and we all know what certain Divisions of the Waffen-SS got up to. Then there's the Luftwaffe, with indiscriminate bombing raids against civilian targets.

But are we any better? We invented the whole system of concentration camps during the Boer War. Look at our activities in Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Hell, ultimately we were responsible for the estimated 500,000 deaths during partition of India and Pakistan. We were the first to bomb civilian targets in Germany in WW2. We caused half the problems in the middle east with the way we carved it all up into different countries.

I'm no apologist or revisionist, but Germany, Soviet Russia, Japan, France, Britain, the US (yes, attempting to wipe out the native American Indians counts as genocide) all have dark periods in their history. NONE of which should be swept under the carpet.

Now, for some more family history. Of my grandfather and his four brothers (on my mums side of the family) the only one that was killed was on a boat torpedoed by a US submarine. As my Grandmother once said "I don't like the Germans, but at least they were the enemy. Arthur died at the hands of our allies"

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

concentration camps yes,, (and due to incompetance and other factors the death tole from disease was horrific),,,, but we didnt put them there with the sole puropse of them dying. death camps are NOT down to the british.

Come off it, Keith - we all know you're just a big teddy bear!

For me... well, with a name like Steiner, what choice did I have?! 8) Anyway, I also have Brit kit, but with the recent influx of Allied players, I haven't had much chance to use it.

Yeah i was trying to avoid saying that myself, from an objective historians point of view the US army is one of the worst in the 20th century and is incredibly reliant having the technological upper hand to 'win' wars (although they tend to settle for having their arses kicked by farmer nations or draws....)

:)

One thing you can say for them is that although they tended to rout if you sneezed at them in WWII they also allegedly rallied much quicker than other nations.

So its not all doom and gloom for the US.

I think part of this might be cos the armies of Europe had a 1000 year tradition of trying to kill each other and its still a relatively new pursuit for the US. :)

 in humour is much truth.

The up side of US kit is unlike the German kit, when you take it off, it doesn't end up in a not so neat pile around your feet.
Still reckon that German kit is the best looking.

Brit webbing about the best for wwii, it was only 2 years old at the start of the war and is a pretty 'modular' system.

Havng used US wwii webbing, russian, german and brit i have to say 37 pat wins hands down for ease of use. US webbing is pretty good but is let down by the fact that the main belt is pretty much fixed by role.

German originally by default, I wanted a different camo from everyone else at my local site and stumbled across a chinese pea dot panzer uniform that looked cool and was cheap, and an mp40 was all I could afford at the time,I had some german militaria ,my grandfathers wartime souvenirs. From there as all my gear was accidently ss it made more sense to add to it for authenticity rather than buy another loadout.I now have 3 german loadouts, DAK because my local is "The Rock" and everyone wears desert dpm, and field grey to vary my peadot.
But there is no denying the german kit has great potential to bling up and looks smarter, and the kar98 is a wicked rifle.
Having said that ,I now have the best part of 2 british loadouts , commando/airborne 'cos it was comparatively cheap to put together, and Gordon Highlander as a tribute to my grandfather who was a sergeant in ww1 and 1st lieutenant in ww2 .
I don't really care which I wear , its only to keep the sides even in a ww2 game anyway.

Agreed, pluss the doughboy pack when full drags the front of the belt up and the back slips down which is rather uncomfortable.

I went Airborne* because I just really like the look to be honest. It's comfy and practical. The only downside is that the webbing is a bit of a bitch.

Not really interested in Brit kit, but would consider going Airborne.

If I had the money I'd get a full Fallschirmjager kit tomorrow. By far the best kit I've skirmished in when I've borrowed it (cheers Kermit and Steiner!!)

I do love playing Yank though, plus, everyone says I look very American in it! Mind you, they say I look German in Falshy kit. Maybe I just have that sort of face......

*In defence of my decision to go Airborne (I can cover 101st or 82nd, M42 or M43).... I was one of the first airsofters to go full WW2 US Airborne about six years ago. I seem to remember only Chommers, Webby and a chap called Richard Wynne (remember him?!) doing it back in the day. To be honest, there are FAR too many 101st guys out there now. If I had to make the choice nowadays it'd be Falshy or Line Infantry.

I would like to see alot more US infantry and Rangers at a CIA game like a proper squad not 3 or 4 die hards like at haggard, I realy like the look of US infantry kit.
