I was watching the news today and the costs of the Commonwealth Games next year was announced. The word 'affordable' was made by the official many times. But the lowest price is £15. Two thirds of the tickets are supposed to be £25 or less. And ticket prices rise to £90. Great if you are a sports fan I suppose. But these prices aren't for a day's or weekend's entertainment. And it is passive too - just sit and watch.

In this context WW2 games seem to be excellent value for money. So I thought we could have some fun here and I invite others to post up comparative costs of days out or special occasions. Parent with young children will know how extraordinarily expensive this can be. And for single adults too! Let's leave aside travel and other costs aside for simplicity's sake - although I will say camping at a WW2 event and eating out of tins makes a WW2 event extremely cheap in total!

So we need: Event; Cost; Time covered; Passive/active

3D Showcase DeLuxe showing of Star Trek Into Darkness - £14.30 - 2.5hrs - passive
Airsoft open day at Phoenix Airsoft - £25 (own kit) - 1 day - active
Woodland Paintball, Derbyshire - £60 (kit and 700 paintballs) - 1 day - active
West Midland Safari park - £17 (adult) - 1 day - passive/active
English Heritage History Live - £22 - 1 day - active
Swimming session, Derby - £3.20 - 1 hour - active
'Bird Song' Theatre Royal Nottingham - 3hr - £25.50 - passive
Eden Centre, Cornwall - £23.50 - half day - passive/active
Alicia Keys, NEC Birmingham - £50 - 3hr - passive

Any other contributions?

LOL - I think the spirit of the exercise is to at least incorporate a social element to your weekend. You can sit in front of the telly for a weekend for nowt too!

I've always played Monopoly in a fairly passive aggressive way, so best of both worlds.

Not strictly true, that one. I don't know what the 'loaning' of kit's like in the medieval re-en world, but I'd imagine there's a fair outlay before you can just turn up and quaff.

Catching the chaffinch in your garden. Liking it and then putting a ring on it. Active.

Odd if you are not a ornithologist conducting a study into the travel habits of chaffinches.

It depends- there are usually a couple of "Loan" kits handy for newbies, but you're expected to get your own kit together if you're staying. A bit like airsofting really!
