What it says on the tin, I'm looking for any and all information regarding the Afrika Korp. Unifrom, decent reference books, websites. As I am now the proud owner of a very nice olive tunic, the next kit is going to be DAK. So lay it on me. 8)

Excellent, another recruit for Panzer Armee Afrika! :good: What sort of look are you thinking of Imp? Heer obviously :D but early or late? What type is the tunic? You after some of those nice sexy long boot or some shorts?

There are a few good books recommended on the Pst forums http://www.panzergrenadier.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=7880 (saves me typing).
Obviously lots of other info too.

Excellent website http://www.afrikakorps.org/. I haven't managed to read half of it yet.

The McGuirk book is very good, it's the one I used when looking to put together a LW flak gunner uniform. Afrika lets you mix and match to a certain degree. Shoulder boards were a particular item that was in short supply.

the tunic seems to be in the style of an m43, Ie non pleated pockets. As regards to early or late war, I'm not sure. Dependant on the tunic. Thanks to all for the help so far. I'll post up pics of the tunic and take it from there.

If its a non-pleated version then that puts it as post October 42. If it has completely straight pockets like the M43 then I'm not sure they were DAK issue at all as I think they were too late. A picture would be solve the mystery. :good:

For the rest of the kit, as Poacher saids you have quite a bit of freedom. The poor supply system and lax regulations means you can have a combination of tropical & regular issue, Italian and even captured British kit.

I'm using a mix of tropical & standard equiptment- canvas belt & staps and the later 'tropical' canteen ( resin & wood covered one) with the rest regular temperate issue. Using normal boots is fine too although I've opted for tropical low boots as they can be used for late war europe as well (and I think they look good  ).

French shirts, with button down collars [angel, dont read that bit...oops!] were common. The FJR were seen in captured British airtex shirts. There is a series of photos of them getting awards, most in shorts and Airtex.
Field grey shoulder straps were common as were blue ones for Luftwaffe. Low boots of the usual type are seen mixed with the low desert and high desert boots. I've not seen jackboots in combat shots.

Yes I've only seen Jackboots in shots away from the front line and then only on officers as far as I can remember.

I thought the shots of the FJR in Brit kit was from Crete? Or am I thinking of a different set??

Oh the grief I caught for that...

Some from me.. :? With Panzer Blacks they are wrong. Unless they are olive brown with a long pointed collar. You just dont see collars like that anymore. That might not be a bad thing.

I think you are correct, my mistake. I knew it looked hot though. :D

I've seen DAK in shorts and jackboots.

Its in George Fortys 'The Afrika Korp at War' vol1.

Given its very early arrival shots. But it is ORs and officers

Edit; its in 'Afrika Korps at War. Vol 1. The Road to Alexandra, page 41. ISBN:0711008418

and page 60 shows high boots in combat but not the lace up type but look a little 'tight' on the calf for marching boots.

Hi
I have just completed my DAK kit. Tunic and trousers are the earlier pattern from Spearhead Militaria in the far east. Excellent copy ion a heavy material.
I have managed to get a pair of ankle tropical boots from the USA, ebay no less. soldier of Fortune sell the same but much dearer. They come with heel irons I am just about to put the hob nails in.
As for shirts try the ones from 'Achtung Panzer' militaria in Leeds, great copies available in olive or sand.
AS for cap I have the standard DAK olive cap again from Spearhead as well as a good copy pith helmet (from a stall at Beltring £20) and an original M37 Helmet.

I have full assault kit for rifle or MP40 in webbing.

Now looking for some more DAK troops.
