Thanks for the info there bigkie, a lot of help!

All I can say is thank god they used braces back then. I have the problem of having 3-5 inches "spare" on the waist just so the trousers can fit my thunder thighs. :slap:

If like me you hate sewing on insignia, i'd recommend Richard Underwoods for tunics.

They come with good quality insignia professional sewn on :good: Ok you pay a bit more but when you add the cost of the collar tabs and eagle seperately it's not a lot more.

With any of the UK suppliers, Epic, Militaria.net etc, I'd recommend trying to attend one of the Militaria shows which they are attending around the country. That way you can try everything on and be sure it all fits. Nothing worse than having to return an item to a Hong-Kong seller! They will also usually do you a bit of a deal if you are buying a few bits.

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

I have to admit, when it comes to the uniform (now thinking M40-M42), I'm a little stuck where to get from. I have my heart set on Gavin Militaria. The price seems reasonable and reviews say good quality... But other places cost more for the Tunic alone :(

Uniform on order from Gavin Militaria, looking forward to it!!!

Struggling helmet wise though. My head is a large 62cm and generally helmets seem to go up to 59cm or sometimes 61cm.

Any recommendations with where to find a helmet big enough?

EDIT: Answers own question, link for reference :). Alternatives in UK would be nice though!

Finally got my Uniform (don't ask, long story).

Really happy with the quality, even if it does itch like mad. More so than I expected haha.

Next up, Insignia!

EDIT: Just realised I look quite angry in that photo...

Yes indeed!

Oh and boots. I have been recommended to get british army boots and cut the tops off.

Never seen it done though

Looks great! Jack boots would be classic. I have to agree with Jimmii. When are you going to join the first game?

British Combat Highs cut down are indeed a reasonable approximation of one pattern of low boot, but frankly if you are wearing gaiters over the top, it really doesn't matter. I use my BCHs as late pattern FJ jump boots too so didn't cut them down.

Cheers
Martin

Sadly I cannot fit into a pair of Jackboots or they would have been my go to option. Even the largest pair I have found wouldn't fit over my calves haha. Having massive legs does not help matters at all!

When are you going to join the first game?

Well I'm going to start off at my local WW2 site: The Hill and visit Players of War.

Hoping I can start to make big events down south. Will try drag bodies down as we have a lot of players up here!

Dundee, Scotland

Bit of a trek to some of the bigger games!

The Hill has 8-10 German players, maybe more. Couple of MG42's in the unit :happyswing:

Ups, not really around the corner. Well, games are now being already announced quiet early, so maybe you guys can get a bit further south. The 30th are running a bigger game near B'ham next summer. Maybe you can a squad together. ...and as I read you are already well equipped. Fire power always very much appreciated at games with ammo limits. We had some very good squad action in the last game and the MG42 played its role as support weapon brilliantly.

Definitely want to make some of the bigger games!

Need to look into it more as I know some events like the camping/eating to look authentic which is pretty cool, but stuff I need to research.

There are very, very few events which require period camping gear. In fact I can't think of any in the last two years, possibly not even the last three.

It is nice to have of course, but the general experience of a WW2 weekender is quite sufficiently different to normal airsoft to be worthwhile whether you are in a modern caravan or huddled in a ditch under a blanket.

Beer under the stars in a scratchy wool uniform. Great.

Cheers
