Planning on getting a Splinter Parka

Does it matter to you if the camo pattern is wrong?
The Epic parka suffers, like many cheaper repros, from having all the errors of the Sturm pattern.
It seems the other Chinese makers were too cheap to buy a real sample of splinter to copy so bought a Sturm zelt and copied that.

Never knew that.

How different is the pattern compared to the original?

That would be one thing that'll bug the hell out of me

The original print only has blocks of green grouped together in clumps of 3. The Chinese version has one clump of two. It also features a shape that looks like an arrowhead made by enclosing the background colour with brown. This isnt a feature of the original either.

Mountain troops have pretty dang cool smock or windjacke.

Seanebabes is the one to know about the Gebirgs'. He'll be around to letch'a know about stuff.

I dont think climbing mountains in a Parka is something I would like to try.
You do know they were issued with the trousers? Very unusual to see just the jacket worn.
A greatcoat is often a better choice for cold weather, everyone got one of those.

I don't think I'll notice the difference too much

I've got one and the trousers which I mainly wear for sitting around in at night after games in the winter, when we're having a beer or 4 They are bloody warm and comfy once worn a few times and softened, but be aware they don't like the rain to much and will be hot to play in even in UK winter.
One small tip. Re-stich or add extra stitching to all the buttons, they come very easily other wise.

If thats the case I won't get one, using as a coat when it rains was one of the reasons I'd buy one

Go for the Gebirgsjager anorak if you want a waterproof (?) jacket. Very stylish.
The parka was issued to Gebirgsjager, largely because they were used as regular infantry on the eastern front. Not very popular at the time though. In his memoirs Sepp Allerberger complains (along with his comrades apparently) that they would soak up water if the duck canvas outer became torn at all, become heavy and then freeze. They apparently prefered the greatcoat. It may have been that late war shortages meant that the linings were not necessarily wool.
The repros are very nice for sitting around drinking. I also found they are very good for sledging in too... cosy nice!
But get a Gebirgsjager anorak.
