I own an M36 uniform for a senior NCO with a bottle green collar, expecting it to be the same kind of field grey/greenish colour most soldiers wore. However, once I arrived at my first event earlier this year the other German's uniforms were completely grey, leaving me to stick out as an incredibly obvious target for the allies :slap: I even bought the M40 tunic and trousers, but it looks the same to me. Which uniform type for Heer was a more solid grey texture, as I was sure the M40 was the right one. Any help would be appreciated greatly, might seem a silly question to experienced collectors/airsoft players.

There were variations in colour of the Feldgrau, because they were manufactured by so many different factories, and under shortage of materials. Was yours really so different? Where did you buy it from ?

Were all the other uniforms WWII replicas, i.e. green /grey, or were they just grey?

I think I remember you from the Bastogne game? where you the young lad at the the social with a nco's crusher cap? If so I cant remember the colour standing out as being wrong. I have an M40, M36 feildblouse and M44 trews, all differant shades of feildgrey. As Steiner says there were lots of variation in colour from differant manufacturers and as the war went on the wool content dropped to nearly half so some variation is normal :good:

I think the only thing that stood out as wrong was that the crusher needed crushing

Have a look here for examples of original uniform items.

As the chaps say, you can see there is a large variety of shades.

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."
Joseph Stalin, November 1942

Well I bought the M36 from Richard Underwood, and yes I suppose the cap looked too tidy for someone supposedly at the front for several weeks, thanks for that prideofengland  I was the guy at the Bastogne breakout, but the cap was just smart wear for the social :D Thanks Boshman for the link, I can see now the large variety, I had no idea the shades were so abundantly differing throughout the war. The others uniforms were definitely grayer, but I'm not sure if they were all replicas or not. Ah well, I suppose looking slightly different is fine, but it's also more immersive if I feel part of the unit Thanks very much for the feedback, very helpful everyone. :good:

I think you can be safe in the knowledge that everyone is wearing replica German uniforms - and all made in the last 10 years and no one has a more authentic colour than anyone else. As others have said, worry ye not. Uniforms are just work wear, the important thing is to get to some games and get some use out of it!

Well thank goodness for that, I would never doubt Richard Underwood's ability :D and I plan to make this hobby a permanent one so my 'work' wear will blend in for sure once the M40 battles the elements :good:

my trousers are greener than the jacket ,standing next to Gordon his jacket was greener and trousers grey, looked like we got our kit mixed up  but is probably a really authentic look for mid war as a replacement garment would probably be a different shade and you would get through trousers faster than jacket's etc..

wot they said :good:

There was a massive variation on wool colour for all sides, but the anally retentive German sticklers for uniformity were the worst offenders.

From AtTheFront's research on German wartime feldgrau:

Original uniforms, none of which match. The 4 on the right are all made in 1943.
If this is difficult to swallow, please call A.Speer at the Reich Economic office in
order to lodge a complaint. I'm sure that Deutsche Telekom in Berlin
information will be most helpful in locating his number!

:giggle:

If anything, it's not that there is too much variation in repro feldgrau, it's that there isn't enough.

Then I shall make sure I get some more events on the calender :D I didn't so much worry about the colour, I still found the event awe inspiring but I couldn't help but notice the differences. Well I am more than convinced it's no problem now, and as many of you say I just need to get it aqauntainted with the earth
