I'm happy to confirm that we wil be using the Redditch site (the one used for "in the pocket") for our next get together 8) . Date is Sunday November 16th. I've chosen this site for a couple of reasons, first, I'm bored with Hilton Park, second, Redditch brings our members who love in the south a little bit nearer, thirdly, we can use areas where we won't get covered in paintball residue.

Cost is £10 per head, as usual and this includes hot drinks and hot lunch should we desire it :good: If we can all be there by 0900hrs at the latest, we'll get maximum daylight to play with. Latest update is that there will be a small group of paintballers on site as well. Obviously we will work round them and keep well away. It brings the added advantage of there being a site manager present, so dry kit can be left in the safezone should anyone want to do this.

The plan is to 'kit up' on the car park and walk to the safezone. Then, we'll have a quick chat about how we can move the group forward and get some ideas for Operation Lightning next March. Next, a short range session, so people can set hops, test new weapons, etc. Then, we'll have a quick session on judging distance and fire control orders. After this, we will practice section attacks, Waffen SS style. We will also practice making best use of the medic. If time allows, we'll do contact drills and tactical withdrawal under fire as well. Expect to use a fair bit of ammo and bring spare batteries! No need to worry about pyro's, as we have several dummy stick grenades we can use (just don't land one on someones' head! ). We will also rotate the role of squad leader, to give everyone a go and to see if we have any undiscovered heroes among us. We won't be sitting around on our butts all day, expect it to be a bit more challenging (and hopefully interesting) than your average training day.

I plan for us to stay 'in the field', so everyone will need to bring some scoff and a brew kit for when we have a break. We'll carry our admin kit with us and leave it somewhere safe when we're training. If it pisses it down, we'll adapt our plans accordingly. This isn't to make things deliberately or unnecessarily hard, it's just that from my experience, a bit of "field living" brings people together faster than sitting on our arses in a safezone and gets players used to wearing their kit, so they can adjust it as needed from their own experience and preference.

If anyone is bringing a Tanaka K98, I ask that you run it on 134a gas ONLY for the training sessions please, we're shooting at our comrades here, not the enemy. Ideally, everyone should bring a full auto weapon, as we're going for late war "sturm" squad formation and tactics.

Subjects that will be covered are:

1)Judging distance (I will measure out distances to 50 metres)
2)Fire control orders.
3)Preparation for battle.
4)Advance to contact. (With a bit of patrol skills and formations if time allows).
5)Battle drills (squad/section attacks).

We will be using period tactics and methods as far as possible (depends on how many sources of info I can find!). I'd also like to familiarise as many people as possible (who want to) with the operation of our new MG42's, so that if they like, they can have a go at being a machine gunner if the gun number 1 gets taken out.

So far we have:

Myself.
My Brother.
JD7.
Forester.
Steiner.
Cholmley Warner.
Steve.D
Lardassmonkey.
John M.
richardschulze1944.

Yep, I've just checked the on-call rota, and I'm not on it! Should be ok for this.

What time is kick off, and is there an option to stay Saturday night ?

Steiner, no "saturday" option I'm afraid but you're welcome to crash at my place if you want, I'm not too far from the site.

Pimms, I know at least a couple of our members are from your neck of the woods, have a look at a few members' profiles. Keep your eyes out for those who post up they're coming, hopefully you can arrange a lift that way mate.

I'm keeping this on our private forum for now, as we don't really want the day cluttered with any others, except maybe a couple of invited people to play enemy when needed.

Like...uh... Spiers??  Scenario 1: hunt down the lone enemy paratrooper....!

We're doing period German tactics, specifically for the Waffen SS, so it's totally pointless having the allies there as well anyway.

I was thinking that the cold weather will make the Tanakas pretty inconsistent (and therefore useless) come December, so we'll go for bags of MP40's, G43's, MP44's (or their appropriate "counts as"). That will also be a surprise for an enemy expecting lots of rifle fire. Also, it fits in with the Ardennes, as the SS units had all been refitted and re-equipped with the latest kit for Hitlers' last throw of the dice.

with the december game needing her to take time off work, i dont think she will get off a sunday on november as well.
(retail hours are shite, hard for anyone to get time off in the "Critical" Xmas period)

mind you, im currently rebuilding our utility room in to a mini gym for her, so she owes me a few favours, ill ask gently this weekend
