Major disaster, Chris has informed me that the landowners have pulled the plug on him, which means we've lost the site.

Hi Stephen,
sorry to be the bringer of bad tidings, but our landlords, Boughton Estates, and their new land agents have informed us of a change of usage policy for Grafton park Wood, with the upshot being that we can no longer have use of the wood after the end of May, and cannot hold any events on Saturdays, or any overnighters. We have been in (heated) discussions with them over the past week, but they will not be moved on this, despite our protests over the difficulties that this will cause. Obviously this means that the weekender can no longer go ahead, and I fully understand how disappointing this must be for you. Believe me, we have done all we can to avoid this situation, and we deeply regret the inevitable inconvenience this will cause. I sincerely hope we can offer you the chance to hold day events at Grafton next year or at Weekly in the interim period.

best regards,
Chris Sumpter

I can't think of any way around this. Weekly's too small and we've done too much prep for Grafton to change tack now.

Shall I post publicly and start issuing refunds?

Oh buggeration. And it's not even an MoD site whose fickleness we were trying to avoid!

I think we should announce the loss of the site ASAP and perhaps say we are currently looking at alternative sites and see what we can find in the next week?

:slap: Oh FFS! Best to get it announced asap I suppose. I can't think of any other suitable sites that fit the scenario either.

Having thought about it, even if we found another site we'd have to start all over - the entire game was designed around that site. I don't want to shove on any old game for the sake of filling a spot.

I agree 100% with this. Let's put Hut 9 on hold until another site appears and, look towards doing something later in the year? We're not committed to doing anything else, so there's no pressure on us at all.

Agreed, I'm away next week too, so won't be able to commit any time to this in the next 10 days.

I'll issue refunds.

Is it worth thinking about another game later in the year? We could do Dave's "Z", or have a think about something else, like "Project Paperclip".

Yes, we'll need to get dates in the diary for both the game schedule and our availability.

Don't forget, IED have offered us Ceri and Glyn Ceiriog.

I had planned Z around the site Craig is using this year so that will have to wait.

The Paperclip concept sounds like a good idea, inclusivity and all.
I'm just getting to the end of Antony Beevor's mammoth "Second World War" - the Russians are encircling Berlin and already putting teams in to retrieve intel and materiel from the nuclear research facilities. Operation Paperclip was post-war but there definately were British/US/Russian plans to grab what they could before the war's end, such as "Special Mission V-2". "Alsos Mission", "Operation Lusty" or "Operation Backfire" are possibilities too.

I'm not sure I can stand another game at either Ceri and Glyn Ceiriog though!

Ditto, certainly for a while yet, anyway.

Well, indeed, and when Ed offered I thanked him but didn't take it any further.

This from Craig:

me and Rich were just talking and I got to thinking.

I fear that Lenino will be canceled, Russians thin on the ground anyway, polish puts people off, and other things I won't bore you with.

As you were going to use MAW for your other game in October, and it is far enough away still to work around dates, would it be of any use to you guys if you were to 'take October on'? It would be a shame if there was no CiA game, especially if it because Lenino was on the calendar and just never happened.

We could look at filling the CiA slot with a game we have had in our minds - basically what Bastogne should have been. Same time frame as your game (Sat-Sun), with HQs for both sides, an open '1944 kit' for both sides, phone lines etc and a structured 'battle' between them. We were thinking of Eversley - because it is less expensive then other places and Josh is easier to deal with.

What are your thoughts, if you don't mind me asking?

That's very nice of him. MAW is no good for Hut 9. Dave, do you want to roll with "Z"?

:giggle: Well, with only 1 "side", we should be ok!

Cool, and I'd go for his Bastogne game at Eversley as a player too.
