Hi,

I have been into Aisoft skirmishing for a bit and done som Milsim but I chanced accross the WW2 reenactment and would like to give it a go.

What events are held in the NorthWest and which ones are a single day?

I need to know which side is needing players and then once decided, what loadout is the most generally useful so I could do a maximum of events without having the wrong kit?

Finally, any advice on the best bare basics and where to get them at the best price would be appreciated.

Hi there. Most of the events we attend (some organised by CiA, some not) take place in the Midlands, because of its central location. Some of us have a long way to travel there, but you get used to it!

As for which side you go for, it's entirely up to you. I think I'm correct in saying that there is no massive imbalance at the moment, so choose between Brit, American or German. Go with your heart!

And have a look at the various kit suggestions, because in each side there are loads of different units and uniforms. :)

Assuming this is same person who asked on ASUK ? if so as Diggah stated on there, there is an event at F & O, near Matlock. Am sure in the new year (08) there will be an event at the North West F & O new site ;)

Distance wise, depends whether you drive or not and if you're prepared to use public transport. Theres a few that have travelled from the land of porridge to events in Wales and Portsmouth ;) on a train

What to pick (as in side) is up to you ;) and of course what you can afford am sure if you decide on a side (allied or axis) and are on a tight budget someone will be more than willing to offer guidance on how to get kit set up ;) . As for which side needs more players, seems to be a swings and roundabouts thing so I wouldn't let that dictate what you want to do ;) do what you want 8)

Thanks for your responses. I am on a bit of a budget and because of other stuff, I can't make any of the events before Christmas now, pity as the D day one would have been good as it was hire uniform and gun which would have helped.

Obviously I am nervous buying anything before attending and talking to people about the most univeral uniform and equipment bits to get. I think I am drifting to German despite originally thinking British as there is more choice for a (cheap) airsoft gun and a Thompson doesn't really look right in my opinion for British (really need a revolver or sten Mk3). I would like to go as a dismounted armoured car crew hence an smg. Does anyone think this choice would be limiting for the uniform requirements of some of the one day scenarios being run and planned.

Does anyone have a absolute minimum early/ mid ww2 kit list for both German and British armoured car or general impression and the best (cheapest/ value for money) vendors to get it from? I am really looking for specific advice rather than general comments as I have had problems finding general period pictures or uniform guides online to help pick the correct headgear, belts, etc. In essence, I would be shopping blind.

Sten Mk3 is really only suitable for Glider Pilots.

Revolvers were only issued to certain troops... Most didn't get a side arm.

For Brits you want ideally a No4 if you're going to be standard line infantry. A Sten MkII (good luck!) is also good. The Thompson M1928 is excellent for early war as well. The Sten MkV is perfect for British Airborne.

For British Commando pretty much anything is okay... including the thompson, so they're actually a good one to do.

Check around in the Specific kit forums for more info... also note that we are currently working on some kit guides that will assist the creation of an accurate impression... no idea when they'll be finished though!

Anyway, Welcome!

If you want to go Brit either yith or I can help you get exactly the right thing at the cheapest possible price.

As a rule repro uniforms are cheaper for german than brit but field kit is the reverse.

Brit webbing is cheap as chips (£20 for abasic set) whereas with german kit £20 wont get you much more thna a pair of mag pouches.

Basic German kit is cheaper , but by the time you've bought all the bling ot go in it- it can work out an expensive do ! I believe Brit insignia is better priced as well .

Chinese Thompsons or MP40s are a cheap way of getting a period weapon from the likes of RSOV.com

Best advice, don't spend £000's , come along ot an event or training day , see what people have & use and get a feel for it before plunging in . It's easy ot get carried away and end up with lots of stuff you'll never use .
