Hello

Welcome

It's not larp as you know it Jim .

You won't have a name , although you maybe referered to by rank . You get shot , you die, you go somewhere and magically come back to life. Or wait 20 minutes stationary and the same will happen .

Getting "in character" is great , and several of our regulars are larpers too , and the scene is better for it .

We don't play games as such , the idea is more to get a feeling of "being there", of facing uncertainty , boredom, terror , or just being part of a small unit in WW2 .

Some Germans spent 4 hours digging out emplacements that never got used at a recent event , it was completely authentic, looked and felt the part and we all saluted them for doing so . In the same weekend we had 3 small skirmishes, myself and Kermit interogated 9 commandos ( and for them it was very real) . I personally drank a lot of coffee and kept 30 Germans troops comlete with field comms, authentic vehicles and a mortar section on the go for 24 hours. You will not have experienced anything like this at an airsoft open day I will garantee you , nor will you have experienced it at many re-enactment weekends.

It's not about shooting the gun, but feeling what the man behind the gun felt , 70 years ago .

I really hope this is hitting a chord, and getting you excited by the thought. If you're passionate for WW2, have watched a lot of films or just want to get into the mindset then this is the place for you .Allied or axis, there is a great cameraderie with most people playing both sides , with a warm welcome into almost a club of people .

As an analogie, think more "Ice cold in Alex" than "Saving Private Ryan" .

Wilcommen .

Hiya Dave

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds intersting the previous role play you were involved in. As for the airsoft skirmishing...yeah...great fun and games!

Recently with 'Gunman' we played attack and defence games, but also walked into an ugly AMBUSH! The two days were mixed up with some squad training and bunker clearing exercises. Using pyro's, jeeps, etc also set the scene for something a bit different to the 'usual' airsoft skirmish.

One can really get into character to varying degrees. Good to check out the videos posted on this and like sites to get an idea of what to expect.

Hope you enjoy this genre...and hope to see you in my sights soon too! :giggle: (Yes, goes without saying I'm a SS Frontsoldat)

Hi Blam

Welcome to the forum.
Try an event I think you will like it. While not character based as such it is fully immersive.
If you need help or advice with British kit drop me a line and we will see about what you need to get.

Hi there matey :good:

As Heide said, Old 'Uns words are spot on - fascinating in their own right, too - first time I've seen the whole 'scene' explained so clearly and lucidly :happydance:

I don't get to play many [very recently, any] of the truly immersive weekenders myself, but I have played one or two in the past, and I thoroughly enjoy the one day WW2 themed games put on at a variety of sites. Very different, as has been said, from general airsoft skirmishing and a whole lot of fun. You can certainly go down the route of establishing a character for yourself if you wish - several players here have got forum names based on a series of books about the war, for example, and I based my very first 'impression' on a real life Wafen SS officer - hence my forum 'aka'

Hope to see you at a game sometime :happyclap:

Hello and welcome.

Just to echo the comments above, very different to a normal airsoft open day.

Cheers

As the others have more or less said, Rule 7 and take your hits still apply ;0)

There are larp elements, but the overall flavour, texture and emphasis are different.

To the tune of "Mademoiselle from Armentières"

Napoleons army ran away, As you do
The guard stood firm for Frances Pride, As you do
They said the guard will stand and die
But we heard what their Colonel cried
It wasn't pretty I tell you.

Resistance is fertile
