Hi, I'm a regular on Airsoft Forums - UK http://www.airsoft-forums.co.uk/
I usually run around with an MP5 in fairly modern gear at Bristol Airsoft. Yesterday someone posted in the 'spot a bargain' thread on AF-UK about a deal at landwarriorairsoft.com http://www.landwarriorairsoft.com/acata ... tA70NJdW0Q
I couldn't resist and so I bought an ASG sten MKII for £100. It arrived today and is an awesome gun, but I'm now forced to consider building a WW2 loadout.
I guess the idea of some WW2 themed games also appeals.
Go on you know you want to
this sort of thing happens to me all the time

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.

a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
Having tested it, it's an awesome gun. The rate of fire is insane and the sights are very easy to use compared to any other airsoft gun I have ever used. Now I am beginning to realise that WW2 gear is a lot more complicated than I had imagined and the fact that I'm allergic to wool adds extra fun to sourcing it.
Good to have you here, and fear not, there is always the German ans Soviet cotton twill uniforms and I'm sure those with much more experience than me can point you in the direction of other suitable kit on both sides. Good hunting!
I've fired a bullet on every continent. Nearly hit someone, too.
US hbt or m43 HBT for gerries as well
I was very tempted by that sten deal myself but I'm currently swithering on getting a bolt action rifle which would pretty much blow up my budget for the year so couldn't really go for it till I make a final decision on that.
On the complicated kit and allergy type stuff one other good option with the sten is that it easily fits into resistance/militia type load outs, pair of basic looking work trousers, a shirt, any old pullover or cheap suit jacket and a flat cap and you're good to go. Don't even need any webbing just take a bread/messanger bag or satchel type thing to stuff some spare mags in.
From someone used to using an airsoft MP5, the rate of fire and accuracy of the sten is astounding and the iron sights are easier to use than on any airsoft gun I have seen.
I usually test airsoft guns by shooting a pillow, its a safe method as a pillow usually absorbs the impact well. The sten caught me offguard by shooting so fast that each bb got hit by the next before it could bounce clear and shattered, with the sharp fragments then being hit and making holes in my pillow. This has never happened with any of my other guns. I guess that doing away with safeties and semi auto somehow allows the gearbox to be that much more efficient.
So if you did decide to get the sten, I guarantee you would not regret it.
I am sorely tempted like, so sick of mags hanging down and getting in the way when trying to hide ... especially if they are highcaps and decide to unwind.
Been having a bit of a hard time finding extra ASG mags for my MP40 likes but if I can find them at least it and the Sten both use the same ones.
get kings arms 110rn box set (5 mags) last time i looked a couple of new dealers had in stock
I intend to get the King arms box set. Everywhere seems to be out of stock atm so I have asked Swindon Airsoft to order them for me. I have a gift certificate for them to use up anyway
For ASG mags try taiwangun.com
http://www.taiwangun.com/en/magazine-lo ... -mp007-agm
they're in poland so no tax or duty to pay and if you order over about £50 delivery is free.
Do the king arms mags need to be modded to fit in the ASG Sten like they do with the MP40?
And thanks Russe I'll check out that polish site.
my king arms mags fit my sten fine without any modification so you should be fine

Oh that's good to know.
Continuing the dumb questions what batteries do they take and where do they go?
My memory is a bit hazy I think I remember ones with a battery in the upper body but that might have just been for very small lipos and then there was one that took a stick in the stock. I've got a 9.4v stick, a couple of 8.4v sticks and some 8.4v small types kicking about but I've not stepped into lipos yet cause I've a fear I will break them.
Battery in the body sounds fun cause that opens up the posibility of different stocks, I'm pretty fond of some of the stock variants the sten had.
As delivered my sten has an 8.4v down the tube of the stock.
I've never run it any other way.

I run a small lipo in the body. I can give you the measurements if you'd like.
Btw, my Sten does not take KA mags straight away, need some sanding in the feed hole and hop, aswell as a good slap to go in.
Why do you always carry that umbrella?
-Bad memory. Never could remember the password. Knew no Jerry would carry one. Had to prove I was an Englishman, you see.
A bridge too far
Certainly would be useful information Iceman if nothing else it means I can search for it again should I try to make/buy some different stocks.
As far as the KA mags go, should they not work I'd be willing to mod the mags but filing the hopunit is something I'd probably rather not do.
My KA mags go in fine with a bit of tap, just as they do into my MP40. Never bothered to mod them as they work fine as is, but I gather it is a bit variable as to whether you need to do it or not with MP40s.
Cheers

My mates' MP40s eat them fine enough too, don't know whether its to do with the batch of mags, when I was measuring the feed hole position it seemed to me that the mags feed holes were a bit too forward compared to the hop-unit. Still in my opinion a better choice than the ASG/AMG mags which seem to spill out the BBs at any bump. The bloody lip that holds the BBs in is curved (like going along the edge of the BB like this sigh "O)" ) on AMG mags, not straight like KA. Might order that 5-pack before the next WW2-game.
I use this Turningy 1300mAh on my Sten. Should give you the measurements and it's a good battery for a cheap price too.

A bridge too far
So mine arrived thismorning.
I don't know if I was imagining things but it sure seemed like it was pumping out shots at a crazy rate for a standard 8.4v NiMH.
Gonna need to learn to have a light trigger finger, even more so if in close range and "single shot only" would apply, I'll probably just fall back first in that case, till I get a pistol at least.
Rock solid compared to the slightly wobbly nature of the ASG MP40 and MP44 ... with one exception, is the faux charging handle supposed to have a spring or something to stop it moving about cause mine runs up and down it's little slide freely. May have to open it up and put some tape on it to stop it moving.
