Dry cleaning?

I have my uniforms dry cleaned once or twice a year it costs about £15 here for three or four items.

Then do what was done in the 40s, leave it to dry, brush it off.

My kit wash roll has a clothes brush for this purpose, i knw yith has one in his kit too.

You should have seen the state of my battledress after crawling around waterloggged chalk corridors 200 foot underground at 'projekt wotan'.. soaked, stained and chalky... left it to dry brushed it all off, looks good as new.

*then* take it to the dry cleaners.(im not suggesting this bit was done in the '40s)

Its not supposed to be machine washed, hand wash if you have to but dont stick it on a fast spin and expect it to come out ok...:)

yup, mud can generally be removed from British uniforms with a brush... It helps that the serge is mud coloured.

A cool wash can be used for more ingrained non-mud coloured dirt. Though after it comes out stretch the wool briefly before drip drying it.

I usually do a hand wash so I can control completely what happens to my uniform.

(and yes I have one of the 40s brushes... a "hair/clothes brush")

I do what Gadge does - brush off when dry. It doesn't look perfect, but then it's not supposed to! We're front line soldiers!

If something genuinely needs a wash, I wash it on the coolest setting, with no washing powder (but a bit of fabric conditioner).

If you *have* to machine wash stuff, wash it inside out, that way the drum doesnt rag off the insigina...

Wellits up to you its just a shame to go to the effort of getting all that 40s kit together to put velcro on it... may as well stick a zip on your tarnjacke while you're at it :)
