Hello and welcome to the forum. There are many more WWII reenactors than WWII airsofters, so there are not events going on all the time all over the country. Those of us who attend events have learned to put up with travelling all over the place.

The events vary greatly, because of a variety of organisers, and also because organisers don't just want to repeat the formula of their previous events. Some are one dayers, some are 24 hour events. But most of the events organised on this particular forum place the emphasis on working in Zugs or sections, and have quite stringent ammo limits - both to enhance the experience to make it more accurate than a load of people wandering around on their own, shooting 1000s of rounds at everything that moves.

Some organisers (like PBI) have short missions - 45mins to an hour, say - and others have events which roll on throughout an entire day, with new objectives being assigned as the day goes on.

Kit requirements are dependent entirely on the organisers of each individual event. Have a look at the events listed in the first section of the forum, to get more of an idea of what to expect.

Welcome to the forum and I am pleased you are also in the North of England as I am.
There are not many games/ airsoft events out this way or good sites to use, so a few of us have put together a game in Birmingham at Drakelow tunnels.
I have created this game to try and bring in re-enactors and Northern airsofters who fancy a try at WW2 airsoft.
As for the boots if they are hobnail don't wear them on the concrete floors you will be on your back all day.

Cheers to both of you for the advice, I shall keep my ear to the ground for events/groups Etc.

Probably the wrong place to ask but do either of you now any sites for 'Regular' airsofitng?

Where are you to help us answer?

PM me if you wish I can give you some info.

Loads. http://www.airsoftmap.co.uk/

However, what we refer to as an "open day" at a regular site will bear almost no resemblence to the events organised on here.

Yes as Stiner says open days may put you off the whole deal for good :D

Hence many of us just hold out for the good stuff.

If you want a nice site try.

There are others near me but not in it's class.

Yes, some of the kit guides are definitely showing their age - I expect that refers to Bundy gaiters. I wouldn't have thought you would need to look at them anyway!

Yes, things would probably be less strict, but many of us make a big effort to get it right, as determined by the scenario. For example, at Il Giogo event in June, we are allowing only Heer and FJ for the German side, as reflected in the units that were actually there in that particular part of Italy. But, of course, being Italy, the actual kit that is acceptable is quite varied! 8)

Do you think there would be any problem with me not being old enough or the Feldgendarmerie possibly being considered elite?

Age is not an issue, unless you are under-18, in which case some events will not be available for you to attend. Many will. As regards FG, is that the only impression you do, out of interest? It depends on the event - at Il Giogo, for example, some of the organisers are portraying FG and MPs, to direct people to their units, so we would not want people turning up as FG.

However, at other events, it might be acceptable.

Haha! What happens at a social is not necessarily a reflection of what happens in the event itself!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Lots of good advice already. Unless you just want to spend a day getting used to your MP44 I'd steer clear of regular open-day airsofting as it's a VERY different proposition than the kind of events you see posted on this forum.

It would be like going to a 15 year-old's fancy dress party to get an idea of what re-enacting is all about :D

I have to take exception with this - You have to go to a re-enactment to get an idea of what a 15 year old's fancy dress party would be all about....

Yes, there are quite a few sites up here, Fearful Silence as Porta mentioned, plus Matlock Combat Games - these only tend to open up once a fortnight. For more regular games Phoenix Airsoft down near Mansfield run woodland and CQB every weekend, and First and Only have sites all over the place. A particular favourte of mine is Camp Anzio near Leek. Not sure about stuff nearer York, one of my pals from Huddersfield seems to spend most of him time doing milsim weekends somewhere up there. Moderns.

People do roll up in WW2 gear at regular sites, and some open days are more milsim like than others.

Cheers

Cerberous Airsoft are the chaps to see. We use their Keighley site last year for an event and only used a bit of it. Cracking site. They also have a quarry at Bradford and a woodland in Sheffield.

Some of my re-enactor pals are in the Northern WW2 Association, the guy at the back with the moustache and K98 lives in Sheffield.

Pete Scoley and Kevin Tingle, they both do Grossdeutschland, Kevs a medic. I've had a look at the NWW2A site, some interesting groups, particularly like the 1st FJ heavy weapons company! The guy with the moustache is Kevins mate, I don't know his name but he has been down to the wargames club a few times.

Kev has done some airsofting in period gear, his ACW stuff. That left the other side rather speechless, they were terrified of him.

Cheers
