Yeah i dont recall the sherrif of sheffield featuring heavily in the legend.

Bradford castle was strangely conspicuous by its absence too....

Remember you can hold title to a land and not actully live there or even come from there.

As in 'earl of.. ' etc, it just means you own that land...

Wehreas sherrif is job role set to a location, and obviously you cant shift a castle around.

oh and there is a loxley in staffordshire too, i think it was quite a common name, multimap shows me three still exist today Uttoxeter, Coventry and Yorkshire. We can rule out Cov i think but the uttoxeter one is aclose as the yourkshire one.....

Remember when the cows were painted by some students? It was my darling cousin that did that. Bless her.

Anyways, I was kinda split between the options "Scotland" and "Some god forsaken hole miles away from anywhere", since I live in both.
Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. :)

robin hood, what a tale,

probably some middle ages chav, trying to big himself up in the tavern, to blag a free ale , and a stoat pie.

"ive no cash you see , i give it all to the poor" , said robbing chav

"but didnt i see you legging it from the sherrifs dibble with a stolen chicken under your arm" , say tavern keeper

"yes i gave it to a poor old lady, and all she gave me was a pipe of opuim, and now im broke, so go on, let me have an ale, and that stoat pie, im a hero you know", said robbing chav

TALES A LOAD OF OLD CODSWALLOP

Robin Hood Airport is the clincher for me. Clear, primary evidence that he came from Yorkshire.
