That's good to hear. I can feel myself getting the Spot On bug, but I'd like to actually come to an event or two before I go mad ![]()
Are there still places left ?
We haven't started booking for this yet - booking will be sometime after 26th April. Place are very limited though.
Just a thought - this event will be well worth a punt: viewforum.php?f=103
Great scenery and site, plenty of spaces, plenty of freedom with kit and will certainly give you a good idea of what you are letting yourself in for. ![]()

We looked at that one but to be honest we are based in Nottingham and Derby so Aerial sounds pretty much on our doorstep. It sounds like I have myself and 2 others interested so we will try and book on when you open up your places.
andy, your kit will be fine mate, i know, i have seen your fally gear. dont worry about it.
Pretty sure this isn't Andy!

So where did you get the Kilt cover from ? My other half is a dress and costume maker by trade and is intrigued...possibly enough to make one.
The kilt cover came from What Price Glory ,though I see that Pegasus are doing them as well, looks pretty simple to make , half a dozen pleats to the rear, draw string at the waist and a couple of ties down the side, then the sporran/pocket on the front.I can try to get some more detailed photos if you like.If your other half can make them you may have some other takers on here.

They are quite similar to the German ones, yes.
As for getting hold of carriers... not the foggiest.
Since not everyone had one, then just not having an entrenching tool at all would probably be the simplest option.
Dunkirk beach not being the best place to dig in under the circumstances at that time! Awesome kit though stof, lets hope I don't get any up-kilt photographs of you!! hehe

I need to check my soft headress is correct.
I've a navy/black glengarry with royal blue top ball, black tails and balck 'rose' . no dicing on it.
Gadge, your Glengary is - The London Scottish, Gordon Highlanders, 14th London Regiment
Are the tails straight cut?
I'll dig it out and have a look.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I had a brief look and Sutlers are charging over £200 for kilt covers, which either means they are a lot more complex than they look, or that getting the specific fabric is damn expensive. If they are like normal kilts then there will be a fair amount of yardage in them.
If anyone has got any photos that would be good. I have struggled to find WWII references on good old Google images, but what I have read does imply that kilts were ditched in favour of BD as soon as soldiers could. Not sure how true this is though.
http://onlinemilitaria.net/shopexd.asp?id=1735&bc=no - what price glory, kilt apron $35
http://www.schipperfabrik.com/brit_gear.html - schipperfabrik, kilt cover $24.95
Just looked up Sutlers website for the kilt cover -
WW0051 Kilt Cover,For the Scots out there, a copy of a Khaki cotton drill cover.Price: £220.21 / $330.32
Now thats taking the piss, is it made from virgin's wool?
sutlers take the piss royally, thay have repro RAF pilots service uniform jackets for nearly 300 quid..... genuine ones are only about 60-100 ........
Sutlers ones don't look any different from WPG's , I thought they had "accidentally" added an extra 0 to the price , apart from the rear pleating I'm assured that they are a pretty easy thing to make, and less than £40 delivered from WPG.
And they only just go round the kilt, they were designed to protect it ,not replace it.The fabric is about the same as the cotton lining in the BD,and it has 3 ties down the side to fasten it.
As said before ,there are very few in photos because they used to through them away at the first opportunity, generally whilst on the troopship.

sporans gentlemen, yes or no?
sporans gentlemen, yes or no?
Only on dress uniform

thank fuck for that sandy, just saved me 27 quid

Well £30 is a bit more like it. Still, I'll stick to my itchy BD trousers ![]()
