Hi
this will be my first ww2 airsoft game and the only kit I have is a rifle. where is the best place to buy the uniform?
There are some cheap helmets on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321353664899? ... 1497.l2649 that will do the job.
I went for whatpriceglory.com denim battledress (am allergic to wool but it's also cheaper) SOF anklets and soldier95 boots (the high ankle is covered well by the anklets but you may prefer more accurate boots). Then just keep an eye out on ebay for webbing, I got the belt, pouches, cross straps, entrenching tool (wrong one for this game), waterbottle and cover for £30.
If you're having trouble, I'm sure some of us will have some spare bits.
Incidentally as I am putting together Aussie uniform for this, I may as well detail what I'm using in case anyone else fancies giving it a go:
When Britain and most of the commonwealth switched to Battledress, Australia decided it wasn't worth the cost so Australians had similar gear to what they had in WW1 in 1939. Spearhead does Australian gear http://stores.ebay.co.uk/spearheadmilitaria/
I went for the Brown WW1 jacket and Hat. There is a green jacket in the WW2 section along with matching trousers but the brown comes with insignia that would have to be sourced for the green.
I intend to use my brown denim battledress trousers as I have a wool allergy and wearing wool trousers would be rather uncomfortable. Service dress trousers would be more correct.
Webbing would have been P1907 until such time as P37 webbing could be obtained from the British. For the purposes of this impression I am going to assume that Australian members of this mission would have been supplied with P37 webbing. I may have to switch to Khaki Blanco though.
Boots would be WW1 brown boots with no toe cap. I found these available from Australia: http://www.warwicks.com.au/sales/r_aus_ ... s_boot.htm
The closest match I could find was http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121138205596? ... 1497.l2649 which look about right when leather laces are added.
I intend to use my P37 anklets but Puttees or a 3 button anklet would have been more common.
Basically I am taking British gear and changing the Jacket, hat and Boots. From what I have researched this is a reasonable approach as the Australian army were not averse to looking at the gear of the soldiers they were working with and obtaining any bits that were better than they had.
There is a good article on the Aussie uniforms here I found a while back http://thediggerslivinghistorygroup.blo ... forms.html
Yup have seen that one. I found it quite funny that they brought Aussie troops to the UK and stationed them in Scotland. Obviously the need to keep all the heavy drinkers in the same place was more important than putting them somewhere warm
I did find an interesting article on Australian Battledress. Apparently it was produced for export and used by most commonwealth countries except Australia. It was also used by US troops in Australia because it was easier than shipping them over some smart uniforms to wear when on leave. US marine battledress jackets are a bit of a collectors item in the US.
I have badged up my hat as 2/31st Battalion 2nd Australian Imperial Force. Its an Infantry unit made up of support troops for other units who because they were already on a ship headed for Palestine to join their units, got diverted to Britain when France fell. Whereas most Aussies did training in Palestine before being sent to Britain, 2/31 were trained in Wiltshire and as a result didn't get sent to Scotland.

Never realised they were standard issue
The Hag's were an experimental weapon used late in WW1 and early WW2 but were abandoned because they were found to be highly inflammable and detracted from one of the primary pleasures of war being that you left the wife at home.they were later banned for use in warfare because they were a cruel and inhuman weapon .
