A lot of the information will be appearing over the following days and weeks. We have the best people putting together kit guides for the respective forces.
So I will start by answering a couple of questions, but you can of course ask more.
Isn't this all made up?
Yes, it is. Well, the units are entirely made up, as is the specific contest they are fighting over, however it is set squarely in history. the events of the world are happening around these actions, and they do impact upon it.
It is a conceit. In the same way as placing a German incursion in Britain is a conceit to allow people to play home guard, this is a conceit that allows people to play in Early War.
Why not just do one of the battles from the period?
Because they all feature different forces. Are you willing to get a Polish and British and French and Dutch (or a Heer, GJ, FJ, Alpini, fanteria and Bersaglieri) uniform for one game each? No, you are not. So we have created a scenario where you can choose which of these you do like, and get to use it more than once. Plus we quite like a bit of spy-pulp-fictional-type hypotheticals - we find them fun.
You could just choose one Allied nation and do them? I would like to play a British/Polish/French game and I think it looks much better when everyone is the same.
So would we, but see above. Personally I would be happy just to run games set in 1939, but should I enforce my passions on others? A bit, maybe, but they may be more interested in the British. Or French. Or Italian. Indeed we toyed with the idea of writing in the Americans and Soviets, but it proved too much of a distraction. In the end we debated the loss of the 'one unit' look and decided it was not something that actually bothered us, we are more concerned with the dynamics of the game and the play than looking the same, so we constructed a scenario where we can concentrate on what we consider more important. You are all 'one unit' - a unit whose very purpose is to have different hats - so if you can make the leap to buy into that, then you will all 'look the same'.
Is this an advanced game, not suitable for newcomers?
certainly not. We actively encourage newer players to sample something different. It may be a harder to make the requirements of uniform and weapon for this game, but there are people who will help out, and it is certainly not impossible. In fact there is plenty that can be put together for this game for no more than a standard late war WWII look.
It is understandable how it can be seen as some form of different game, and indeed many players do come along because they are looking for something different to standard open day or WWII airsoft but it does not mean it is in any way inaccessible for those who have never shot a bb before.
Can I get away with using my No4 rifle, as I don't have an SMLE.
yes you can. In fact I will clarify the rifles allowed - any wooden/wood effect bolt action/semi-auto rifle is allowed.
For the sake of simplicity: Your forces are entirely equipped with the "Berthier" and the "Carcano" rifles, for ease of logistics. Therefore any Rifles anyone uses are 'counts as' in effect, and a Springfield/Mosin/No4 is as correct as an SMLE/K98. Simple
. The important thing is the "long awkward bit of wood", a player's desire for the correct gun for their uniform I leave to their own conscience.
This sounds excellent, I was hoping to get the Vickers built in time for this, but should life get in the way can I use my No4? as much as I'd prefer to use a SMLE...

Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
Oh go on then. Where do I pay?
Now do we have to be army or are other arms also attached to this unit?
As it is Ill probably do Brit army as I've been looking for the excuse to apply Pea Green and buy some mark 1 pouches. Although ANZAC also appeals. Bush Hat here we come.
I'm going to have to get the SMLE down below 600 now aren't I?!
I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.

as of yet the allies are a pretty much 'army' ground force - they travel by boat, but the boat people pretty much stay on the boat. If you have an idea of course, then feel free to mention it, I haven't 'ruled them out' or anything.
and yeah, 600 is a hop, skip, jump and plane ride beyond . I would say 'see the rifles rule' about using other rifles, but I know you have one of those particular consciences in that direction.
Oh go on then. Where do I pay?
Oh, the booking thread will go up once we have most of the 'uniform requirements' up, and the full rules posted - then people will be fully informed before booking.
I think you should probably get the SMLE below 600fps to preserve your liberty from teh polis.
Looks interesting and time enough to sort kit for it, be it civilian or French.
To the tune of "Mademoiselle from Armentières"
Napoleons army ran away, As you do
The guard stood firm for Frances Pride, As you do
They said the guard will stand and die
But we heard what their Colonel cried
It wasn't pretty I tell you.
Resistance is fertile
The French kit guides will be up shortly after I have finished this awkward house moving stuff. I think that we have been rather clever with them in my humble/arrogant opinion.
Well, what first sprung to mind is that the Apline Chassuers (huge dark beret and single breasted short canvas wind cheater jacket) seem the most readily achievable. Considering the alleged location, and all

Well if you see my new hat in the 'latest acquisitions' section it may hint towards the answer.
Another one here hoping to sort some passable Frenchness. Got 10 or so Adrian helmets, so it's a start.
I will be interested to see the US/French kit conversion out of morbid curiosity.

Love to do this game, but looks like it will be over £60 on the train. Bit too much
Any one driving up from South London area?
Hi Kroot,
I was thinking about going. Just do not have a rifle yet. Currently only MP40 but i saw some good reviews from Dadio and hope to have something by September. I am based in Ealing.
Cheers
Lutz
I'm without rifle too. Still trying to sort that one
