Is there such a thing as period style eye protection? Obviously standard airsoft eye protection should be used , be it shooting / safety glasses, or full face for juniors, although a full face mesh mask under a german helmet must look very intimidating, I was wondering if there are any period things maybe like pilots glasses or those used by motorcycle riders that are ballistically tested and commercially available?

I have heard of people who buy the old desert /cycle gogels, and have the glass removed and hard plastic lenses put in place, but it cost a arm and a leg and pound of flesh to get done.

or you can buy those sinister hiking and mountain climing sunglasses ,with the leather flaps on the side, for that really nasty Nazi look. Plus they will hold up coz they are designed for roughting around in.

Hang on! (x) of you, (y) of me, dont mind playing Airsoft, I make that Pimms O’clock

i have a pair of vehicle ops goggles which are modern and ballistically tested as far as i know- they have held up being shot from close range by a 450 fps sniper though. looks wise, they look almost the same as the 1944 pattern dust goggles on SOF.

In answer to my own question I found these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 2759.l1259

And putting myself at risk of you lot outbidding me, I thought I should post it here to show what I meant. I've emailed the seller to see if there's any kind of kitemark, but if theyre as strong as B&Q safety glasses I'd be a happy bunny.

Interesting... I'll have to check out the rest of his stuff.

At the moment, I'm wearing mesh glasses, which are multicam-sprayed... yes, I know multicam isn't period, but it blends in quite well.

Don't forget to test the frames... I've shattered supposedly "Safe" goggles by shooting the frames in the past. Luckily only when testing them.

Well, the seller kindly replied and said they didnt rate 2mm polycarb lenses as safe, and pointed me to the milspec part of their range. However I'm not sure if B&Q glasses are more than 2mm poly, so that leaves me with the opportunity to buy these and possibly destroy them with a 500fps sniper at point blank! Hmm...

this is my problem also. no matter what goggles i try they steam up. I've tried all manner of cheap and expensive ones with no joy so I just wear glasses now. yea chance is you'll end up with a face wound(and I've got the xray to prove it) but I'd rather have a hole in my chin than spend 2 days of time I've paid for wondering whether that blurred thing up ahead is another player or a tree.

Well I brought a pair of those goggles, and having had them delivered today, I dont think they are suitable for airsoft. They are a laugh and I'll be bringing them so I can do my "Biggles" impersonations etc, but I'll be sticking to standard eyeware for gaming.

Superb! Those mesh goggles are what I use if I steam up too much. I can thoroughly recommend them.

I got mine from an airsoft place that now seems to be defunct its great to see them back.
