Full consideration will be given to H&S - one of the reasons for the downtime overnight is simplicity of H&S (not just eye protection but wandering around 700 acres of total darkness etc) quite apart from knackered soldiers needing some kip!
We won't be kitting SAS or German camps out with tents as such but we do have a small pool of tents available for loan for those with none of their own.
Both the SAS and Germans will have tarpaulins available and part of the scenario is constructing working and comfortable working bases, albeit the SAS camp will be somewhat more temporary.

ill be getting the french tent as i had serious problems sleeping and cramp at the same time
I'd look at your sleeping system first Marsha. Why would the French tent would be better than your US tent? Camp beds will push you very close to the canvas roof although you might have a bit more headroom in that Frenchy one.
im got campbed sleeping mat which goes on the bed and sleeping bagx2
the problem i get is draft coming from underneath once it get inside the tent then thats when cramp sets in. i need something that will stop draft
I've got one of those French tents. Not a bad bit of kit per se (it was the one I used at Op Husky). I'm selling mine for £20 if anyone is interested, and the flysheet has just been re-proofed. The sewn-in groundsheet (which is very heavy duty) makes a hell of a difference.
As to Zelt tents, they were only designed to take 2 people. 2 would sleep whilst the other two were on guard duty, hence, 4 zelts between them.

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
I'll put a dibs on that French tent if I may. Will pm this evening

Ive got a load of Belgy Zelts with the belgy denison looking camo on. 8 i think and they all string together
I 4 brit pup tents (no poles!! but pegs) Ive also got to 9x9 jeep tents + camo netting we could use for the SAS???
Is it worth setting up unit threads so we can chat and not clutter up the main thread?

All in good time.... ![]()
The SAS base is supposed to be a bit non-permanent so I reckon Jeep tents would be more trouble than they're worth. Tarps and pup tents/basha shelters are the order of the day. They might be good for the German camp though.
Poncho/IPK bashas or built shelters will be the Jed's options.

do you want me to chuck the 9x9s in the back of the van bud? no probs if you do. Otherwise ill just bring the belgy tents for low profile tentage
Heer Schmidt
Thanks for the kind offer Josh but, no need to bring any 9x9's. Just concentrate on enjoying your chance to play mate
.
For information purposes for all, the camp sites/harbor areas will be...
German - Permanent, secure and established. Everything from larger "command" type tents, pup tents, zelt tents and basha tye shelters.
SAS - Temporary, behind enemy lines. Standard Operating Procedures state that shelters are erected at last light, not before. Small pup tents and bashas are the norm. All must be carried in.
Jed's - Improvised, behind enemy lines. Only built/erected when the situation allows. Shelters constructed with what can be carried or improvised.
If it rains (which it may well do), CiA have several large tarp's for constructing troop shelters.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
no probs bud
Heer Schmidt
I am bringing my 8 zelt tent and anyone who needs shelter is welcome
East German square zelts are also plentiful on German ebay. Here's a chap selling one with pole, peg and lines for E9.99.

single DDR zelts go for about E7.00, so you also have the option of affordable, spacious, non-authentic zeltage for less that a single repro WW2 zelt would cost.
To be honest I'd say if you want to buy a zelt tent then buy a zelt tent otherwise any small military canvas tent will do - something like a British pup tent or those French tents for the cost of £12.50 to £30.
Anchor Supplies currently have British 2 man bivy tents on sale for £12.50 each including bag, poles and pegs.
I'll be posting up a tent loan thread shortly...

I'll be ordering one of those French two man tents, but have then thought about what to sleep on. I was looking at one of these

Like the old Brit Army beds but thought that £15 a bit steep, has anyone got a reccomendation of where to look? I thoght this might be useful to Marsha too, if you're a martyr to your back you should have it supported and up off the floor, but these beds are nice and low.

That's what Marsha uses, indeed what many of us use (hateful things to erect though!). However, when in a British pup or zelt I just use a roll mat/thermarest/blanket combo as there isn't the space for a bed without having your nose pressed into the ridge. I don't think there is much advantage in using a cot over the above mattress combo TBH other than lifting you away from damp ground/rats/draughts - and yes, I'm a martyr to my back too,
You can fit those cots into an American tent (I know 'cos I watched Marsha squeeze hers in) - no doubt Kermit can tell you if they will fit in the French one.
Further info on simple mattress combo viewtopic.php?f=45&t=7723 I use this whether on the ground or on a cot, on the basis that the more insulation and padding between you and the floor/bed the warmer and comfier it will be. Heh, what a softy, I'd never have survived in 1944 would I!

Yes, I use one, they are a pain to construct (if you have no muscles like me), but very comfortable, and also low enough to fit in a Zelt tent, without your face being near the "canvas".
Argos do them for the same price, Jim - I guess that's the going rate. Actually, I've just realised I have one of those French / Dutch (?) tents which I haven't used for ages - yours for free if you would like it, Jimbo.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Yes please Andy, that would be great and your offer comes in time, I was going to order one next week so that saves me £30, thank you very much

Nice one Andy. I'd just point out there is a large pool of tents available for this event including a pukka zelt tent, info stickied at the top of this section, so no need for anyone to be buying anything.

I have an original Brit army bed you can borrow if you like.
