Slightly off topic but what would be considered as "Near Enough" tents? To buy another three zeltbahns and a pack of poles I've got to be looking at well over a hundred quid.

Would something like this be acceptable?

Here's a thought - two can sleep in a 4xsheet zelt tent comfortably. Just two zelts each, don't buy poles for the central support but make them out of something scrap you have lying around. You have one zelt already - buying an extra one will be the same cost as that Polish tent and one step further towards a des-res zelt tent all of your own sometime in the future!

A 4-zelt tent was supposed to be for 4 men, so you just need to find another three zelt owning guys, whittle a centre pole between you and then snuggle up in sardine-like comfort at no extra cost
In answer to your question Jim, acceptable tentage is generally anything that doesn't scream MODERN - i.e. made of orange nylon or dome-shaped or with DPM pattern camo. I'd get some dimensions on that Polish one. It doesn't look lbig enough to lie flat.
This froggy one looks cheap and has an integral ground sheet:

And this is what the OKW expected their troops to do when it got a bit chilly:

I can tell you four men to a zelt tent won't be much fun - indeed I don't think four men ever slept in a zelt tent at the same time anyway. Plenty of room for two modern sized people though. I have a spare single splinter zelt if it helps.
I'd urge people who are buying tents to think ahead but as B&H says, the requirement for this event is kit that isn't distinctly modern as the encampments are part of the event. That French tent looks fine or you could get a British 2 man bivy for just £12.50

We do have a small pool of pup tents available on loan for this event.

I have a single zelt and poles, one more zelt and we have one shelter. ![]()
Assuming that the only overnighter as part of this is in game (that's right isn't it?) we will not all be in beddy byes at the same time, so how about we just put together as many as we can between us? Put your name on your zelt so you don't loose it. I shall be naming myself Otto Ravenstein.

There will be downtime from midnight to 0600hrs. If there are enough people who want to carry out missions overnight then that's fine, we have planned for it, but I imagine after 12hrs solid graft in the field then most will want to get some proper sleep. This being the case I'd say tentage planning should be on the basis of a place for everyone.
Marking your own zelts is a very good idea. We built the zelt palace a couple of years ago - it would have been a nightmare if the sheets weren't marked! (Heh, I say 'we' - poor Scott was left to button the thing up - he had thumbs like table-tennis racquets at the end.
)

I assume we going to be having guards rotating through the night?
Through some hours of darkness, certainly. All night if there is any point.

Oh you'll need to,..... You'll need to ![]()
I'll be in a ditch somewhere I think!

I do keep having these visions of a couple of grenades tossed into the centre of the Axis camp, and watching them all scurrying around like ants, with Kermit and Guy shouting, "ALAAAARM!!!"

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
We will make a decision on the day on what exactly goes on between 12 and 6am. Everything is planned for, what happens will depend on what players want/weather/H&S and so on. That is why I have suggested that all players have sufficient cover for themselves for a kip through the early hours of Sunday morning. What we won't do is force into play those who do want to sleep - as with all airsoft events there is a fine line between realism and fun. ![]()

Although I must agree with you CW that another zelt would be halfway to the dez rez, I think I'll opt for the froggie option that B&H linked in his reply.
Thanks for the replies though

Hehe, don't want to share with Seanebabes then?!

He's obviously heard the stories!

I wouldn't want to inflict my snoring on anyone, by first light he'd probably stab me

I'd look at your sleeping system first Marsha. Why would the French tent would be better than your US tent? Camp beds will push you very close to the canvas roof although you might have a bit more headroom in that Frenchy one.

I've already got one of those Polish tents which I use as a "not modern looking tent" I would prefer to use rather than buy another zelt ,if it's ok I can always disguise it a bit with the existing zelt I have.

Yes, as previously stated Stof, perfectly fine. We are quite content with a military look and feel for this event to add to the atmosphere even if it isn't perfect to the period.

I was wondering just how fully "in" it's going to be, purely from the practical point of view of needing to wear eye protection while sleeping, or rather getting up in the middle of the night for a quick whizz and running the risk of being shot at !
An earlier thread implied that you are kitting out the SAS camp with some tents. So do we need to bring our own or will there be some sleeping space ?
